Great site!

I am looking to replace my old Hitachi rear projection. I am looking at a Toshiba 52RV530U for $1198 including shipping from an authorized Toshiba dealer.

Is this a decent 52" LCD TV. I have already picked up a Sharp Blu Ray player.

There are just way too many choices out there. I just want a good TV that will last for a decent price.

Thanks All,

Mike

I do like the plasmas but this TV will sit across the room from a large bay window. My rear projection has a problem now with the reflection from the window during the day. I thought an LCD might fair better. Is the 60hz vs 120hz that big of a deal? My dad has a Sharp that is 60hz and it looks great.

Thanks.

No 60hz vs 120hz is no big deal. I was just being an idiot. 120hz is new and still working out the kinks. You would not even notice a difference watching regular cable or dish. 60hz is normal and you don't see a difference it is just more money for nothing IMO. LCD is better suited to your situation IMO. I still think if the tv looks good to you, and you are satisfied....you win. I see great reviews for Toshiba lcd's. Jump in there Mike.:)

OK. Ordered the Toshiba 52RV530U and a 3 year extended warrany for only $119 more. I normally wouldn't have purchased the extended warranty but for $119 seemed like good insurance. I'll let you all know how it works out.

Thanks for your input.

TV arrived today and is all set up. IMHO outstanding picture. Very clear and bright. Decent SD as well. HD via Comcast is amazing. I'm happy with this purchase. I'll try Blu Ray tomorrow. Now I need a decent sound system. Any suggestions or is this another forum?

Thanks.

Congrats on your purchase!

Glad everything worked out good. As far as sound systems, this IS the right place. Just look around in the forum and you'll find areas for loudspeakers, subwoofers, etc.

I'm hooking up a Blu Ray player. Is there any advantage in quality using a component cable vs an HDMI cable?
