Hi, I am going to buy Denon 3808ci or Yamaha 3800 receiver, but in couple years we plan to move to Asia, Do you know if those receivers accept PAL or SEcam video signal input or just NTSC, if yes, does the upscaling works well with other signals?
can we also configure output signal to what we like?

I really apprecicate your help

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

The owner's manuals are a great place to look for this information, and you can typically get those from the manufacturer's websites. I mention this because you may start looking at different models, and that knowledge will help you investigate a good choice for yourself.

The Yamaha 3800 will do NTSC and PAL (input and output), but I don't see any mention of SECAM. There may be other versions of the 3800 for those portions of the world - I don't know, though.

The Denon 3808ci appears to be compatible with all three formats (NTSC, PAL, and SECAM).

I have no experience with the video upscaling of those units.

Your bigger problem, is going to be AC power. Here we have two phases coming to a house 240 volts. The AC outlets are 120volts one phase and a neutral. In most of Asia, the receptacles are two phase 220 volt, no neutral.

The question you need to ask is whether the receiver has a universal power transformer, that a tech can change over. These universal transformers used to be common, but now are very rare, to get the price point lower. So for that reason alone, you will likely not be able to use a receiver bought in North America in Asia without a costly conversion transformer.

Thanks everyone,
Looking at user manual from Denon for 3808ci, it seems like it accepts input of all kinds (NTSC, PAL and Secam...) but I am not sure if output signal can be selectable (ex, if I have LCD that support NTSC only, can it produces output to NTSC from any of these signals?)
I work for an Intl company and have to move from country to country in every couple years, so if we can use these receivers, it is amazing. I don’t need to invest in outdated Multisystem TV (most of multi system TVs are expensive, order online and not support new tech). and can really enjoy my movie, music…
I have no problem with power, I have couple of converter that can support most of my appliances

TLS Guys, you have nice system! Amazing! Did you build all of these?

Got answer from Denon, AV supports all signal format, except Secam input will upconvert and send output as PAL. so I can buy and pack,
Not bad at all, I will go with Denon

Hi AudiWiki, This is exactly what i was looking for. Can you put the exact reply that you received. I am planning to buy 1909 or 2908 and still trying to find answer. I want to buy a Panasonic Aqous which also support PAL inputs.

I wanted to know if i move to INdia, then, the Input signal from cable/satellite will be PAL. Can i connect that input to Denon receiver and then get a upscaled output to be given to LCD TV?

Thanks
