Yo!

Looking to "retore" my sub woofer sound after I somehow disfigured it. The problem only persists when I play CD'S and not when I play movies via 5.1 or DTS. I have a Panasonic DVD-S77 player with a Marantz SR 7000 receiver. I replaced my Sony DVP-C670D 5 disc changer with the Panasonic to handle the up-conversion etc. with only a configuration change to handle the HDMI. Oddly enough, I could only play CD'S for a short period of time before the player would cut out. The only way I could play them ongoing is if I routed the signal thru the HDMI path it seems. This would the require the TV to be on with the HDMI logo across the full screen. Crappy, having to listen to CD's with the TV on with this logo across it. I have my Samsung 5064 TV hooked up via component video from my DVD player and COAX audio from the DVD player to my receiver down one audio path. I also have HDMI running from my cable box to the TV with an alternate COAX audio path from the cable box to the receiver. After numerous attempts at working with the menu set-up for both units, I somehow managed to change the configuration to play CD'S continously ,however it only allows 2 channel stereo with no sub woofer output. The 5 channel stereo option with this receiver is no longer available as some of the other sound formats like "hall" etc. I'm tryin & dyin. "Anybody out there"

Very Hard Thanks

I could not get the manual of the SR 7000 to Download, but I downloaded the SR 7001, which I trust is similar. On page 38 of this manual, this is what you need.

LPF/HPF
When you use a subwoofer, you can select the cutoff
frequency for the small speakers used. Select one of
the crossover frequency levels according to the size
of the small speakers connected.
60Hz → 80Hz → 100Hz → 120Hz → 140Hz →
160Hz → 180Hz
Note:
• If using small front speakers, set a slightly higher
frequency. If using large front speakers, set a slightly
lower frequency.
BASS MIX
• The bass mix setting is only valid when “LARGE”
is set for the front speakers and “YES” is set for the
subwoofer during stereo playback.
This setting has effect only during playback of
PCM or analog stereo sources.
• When “BOTH” is selected, the low frequencies will
be played through the main L&R speakers and the
subwoofer.
In this playback mode, the low frequency range
expands more uniformly throughout the room, but
depending on the size and shape of the room,
interference may result in a decrease of the actual
volume of the low frequency range.
• By selecting “MIX”, the low frequencies will play
through the main L&R only. This selection is
preferred by THX.
Note:
• LFE signals during playback of Dolby Digital or
DTS will be played through the subwoofer.
7. After you complete this portion of the setup,
move the cursor to “NEXT” with the 3, 4, 1
and 2 cursor buttons and press the OK/ENTER

In essence you have to select both in the bass mix menu, if your left and rights are large. Otherwise you only get the LFE channel, and not bass from CDs. If you speakers are set to small and sub Yes is selected, then I think the sub will always work.

You should be able to connect your CD player to the correct input and enable it. You should not have to send it via the TV.

Many thanks for your help, however I think there is a difference in the menu set ups between the sr 7000 & 70001 . My menu set up doesnt have crossover frequency option that I can see and if I recall its defaulted to 60 or 80Hz. Secondly, My speaker setup menu only allows for "large"and "small" on the mains and "small" ,"large" & "none " on the surronds.I couldn't see any reference to "both" or "mix" elsewhere on the menu. PS For what its wort, when disfiguredthe subwoofer I believe it was via the remote. I remember handling rather awardly and then dropping it the carpet. Any clues.

Again, thanks mega::D

There will be a sub menu. All receivers allow you to set crossover frequency and send LF, not just LFE to the bass whether the speakers are set to large or small. I will try when I'm not busy to download your manual. It just would not download from the Marantz site yesterday.

I just got back to Benedict today. We are literally buried in snow.

I had to have Vinny from the Fort Benedict store plow me out a way in. Tomorrow, I will be spending most of the day, on the tractor, in my Avitar, moving snow, here and at the neighbors. I think it will be a sun up to sundown job, two pops if the twin cylinder engine at a time.

still no woof? any more ideas?:D
Marantz don't seem to be supporting this receiver anymore. The manual would not download before, now it is pulled. I understand that manual is full of errors, so that may be part of your trouble.

Try calling Marantz support, but I bet you don't get help there either.

I would set all your speakers to small, check subwoofer "yes" and crossover to 60 or 80 Hz. If you have no output, and the sub is working, but you get no sub output, then I bet there is something wrong with your SR 7000. If Marantz are not supporting it then it may be hard to get it fixed and it will be new receiver time.

Before giving up, do a reboot back to default settings and start from there.
