I have a running policy not to argue with any dude that's wearing sweat pants out in public.

[Okay, maybe not - but I'm considering it.]

Adam- that policy needs to be amended to read "any dude that's over 12 wearing sweatpants in public, unless of course he's George Costanza- then anything goes." :)

Bet the next time this rude family goes to the theater and somebody tells them to shut the F up, they pipe down real quick. Sad to see somebody get shot, but I understand why he did it. I have been to theaters where patrons could care less who they disturb and the management doesnt do much either. The guy told them to quiet down and they obviously didn't care one iota about the guy, till he pulled out the gun. Granted shooting somebody was way over the line, but if I were on the jury convicting the guy I would be on the fence about how much time he deserved.

People need to realize that when you go to functions like movies that you are not the only one in the world and need to show some manners and consideration of others around you.

Yeah, like not discharging a firearm in public just because you're annoyed.

Can I relate to this guy being upset? Sure. However, if there's something that I'd like even less than someone talking during a movie, it would be someone shooting a gun in the movie theater. Even if you relate to this guy shooting someone who was loud, the bullet could have gone through the guy (or missed entirely) and killed anyone. This guy was packing a firearm in his sweat pants at a movie theater and decided to use it because he was unhappy about something. He showed a total lack of respect or concern for life. That is not the type of person that I want around. I say lock him up.

I agree with Adam, but think I'd be fine if the guy had thrown a beating instead of shooting.

As Matthew pointed out, one good thing to come of this is that that family will think twice. They should plaster this story all over the place and show it before every movie to scare some people into being quiet.

I say bring bean chili to the movies with you. If you have an obnoxious talker near, eat the chili as quickly as possible. When you feel a nice stinker on the rear, you bend your tail right in their face and let it loose.

If that doesn't say STFU, I dunno what does.

I think the whole thing was staged. This is just some crazy stunt that custom installers put together in order to convince more people that they need to have a new home theater system installed in their living room. I can see the guarantees going out already. “Sir, I guarantee that a stranger will not be shooting you for talking during a movie if you just have this system installed in your home! This system will literally save your life!!”

I believe BMXTRIX and Bandphan are both custom installers (I am sure there are others on here as well). They will probably be upset with me for letting the cat out of the bag. Sorry guys.

^ This mindset scares me, and makes me glad I live in Canada.

Why does my mindset scare you? I said I don't approve of what the guy did, I can just understand why he did it, that's all. I never ever approve of anyone getting shot, but my point was, that why does it take such extreme measures to get a basic consideration point across.

People need to understand that this world is full of nutjobs and if your being loud and obnoxious in a theater of all places and someone tells you to be quiet, the normal thing would be to shut the he!! up. But it was obvious the family continued to be rude and continue to talk (this may have been to tease the guy) and then when he goes off, somebody gets shot and somebody goes to jail. Stupid yes, but people need to have manners and I don't see how having a mindset like this is a problem,
