Surrounds/Center recommendation

I have no idea when (or even IF) I'll have the money for new speakers, but if I were go get some now, I wanted suggestions on what the best budget speaker is for surrounds and a center. The Mordaunt's to go with my mains are $350 per surround pair and same for a center. I would like to go WAY down from there.

How about the best, cheapest sub woofer?

Thanks!!

I say don't compromise. Wait awhile. Save up some money, and get the matching Moradaunt speakers.

What would you get next after mains...center or surrounds? I'm guessing center.

Get a sub first. Actually I would just stick with stereo until you have saved up some funds to get a good sub.

If you were going to do it in phases, go 2 channel to 2.1, then 2.1 to 5.1 as funds allow: save up, get a good sub, then save up some more and get the surround and center speakers.

Just my opinion - its probably wrong because your speakers probably do ok with the bass output... :D

Oh sorry :D. I assumed from your initial request of

that you didn't have one. In that case, I second AcuDefTechGuy's recommendation :).

With surrounds just for effect why is it suggested I get the matching Mordaunt's? I can see the center as that and the mains are most of the sound.

If I really could not afford the Mordaunt surrounds, what are the least expensive surrounds that you would recommend?

Actually, let me phrase it this way...what are the least expensive surrounds you would buy for YOURSELF.

P.S.

What are your thoughts on Athena Technologies AS-B2.2 or Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 for surrounds?

If you like either of these, which ones? They are $140 and $120 resepectively.
