I seem to have a problem here. Whenever i turn off the subs in my HT system there is always a popping sound coming from all of them. The volume control is turned down first then i may wait until 1/2 hour before i unplug and it makes that obnoxious sound. I don't want to damage them. I disconnect it when i go out of town. Am i damaging them by doing this?? ;)

I'm not sure what is up with that but you might mention what kind of sub and rec'r you have. My computer speakers do the same thing when I turn the computer off but only since I put a sound card in. My HT subs are quiet while being unplugged. I ran across this write up by The Trixta recently that is not directly related but talks about how the internal wiring layout can affect the subs:

They are Def Tech pro Sub 80's. The receiver is a Marantz SR 5200 AVR.

Mine pops when it turns on and off which is normal. It is just woofing and it is a subwoofer so it has a right to do this.

Thanks. I didn't want to mess anything up. The first time i heard it i thought i did some sort of damage to them. Thanks for the response. ;)

Well, it might not be normal depending on how loud it is. My B&W sub makes a very subtle and quiet noise when it turns off. My PC13-Ultra originally made an extremely loud noise when it shut off (so, like you, I thought that it might be damaging something). So loud that it made the pooch go hide and not come out for a while. I ended up setting it to always be on. SVS recognized a fault in the amp design and has since had the amp supplier redesign the amp. That type of shut-off pop is NOT normal.

Adam has a point on how loud it is. Mine is the same, which is a very soft "thump", no matter what the volume level is, which is normal.
