Today, about an hour ago, my buisness announced they are cutting back my hours.... to, umm.... zero.
They actually cut my friends hours down in half....

Reminds me of the old SNL with Eddie Murphy as Gumby:
"Merry Christmas Damnit!"

Hmm... actually, seems rather fitting in more ways than one.

Well, guess I'm drinking tonight!
See you all later tonight! :D

PS- Note to self, need to find new job.

Hi Jamie. It just goes to show us just how tough things are out there right now. I know we sure have been very slow as people just don't have very much money. Not to mention, many are just scared of getting laid-off or worse losing everything they have. Living pay-check to pay-check is more the norm these days.

I do hope things get better for you yetti. Good luck in finding a job. Locally, the job market is rather bleak. Keep thinking positive and sooner or later things will open up for you. I surely hope you find something soon.

Cheers,

Phil

Yes, my company is also laying off, and we will find out which of us this Friday. Interesting times...

Good luck to everyone this holiday season!

Sorry man! I feel for ya. :/

Yeah things are slow as hell at work for me too. My friends are noticing the same thing too, all their industries are absolutely dead or down. Lots of smaller businesses going broke.

Also, anything that isn't "green" is pretty much completely ****ed. That's why I bet I'll be looking for a job eventually also. Just a matter of time.

I wish there was something we could say to wipe out what you're feeling... but I know there isn't anything.

I'll save the cliche's. Best luck to you.

That really bites. Sorry.
It's a lousy time of year for that to happen.
Try not to let ruin your spirits. Even now there are better things out there.

Sorry to hear, especially at this time of year. But there seems to be alot of this going on. My son was layed off a couple of weeks ago. The company he works for had prided it self on never having layed off workers before in it's 100 year history, now there down for at least 3 weeks and told it my be even longer. And he may have to move back home!
This will get better!

Sorry to hear of this, but in reality it is disturbing to me. I personally know two other people who have also been "layed off" within the past month. I pray things will stabilze soon, and I hope you can find another job quickly.

I'm really sorry to hear about this. It's a tough employment market right now and I hope it gets better soon. I've got a five week layoff over Christmas and even if I don't lose my job next year, I hear that we will have up to 30 weeks of layoff in '09. It's not looking good.

I suggest a case of beer:) and a half quarter:) with Eddie Murphy Delirious playing on the t.v in the background while tweaking your resume. You will find that job! You will get that job! Keep your spirits up!

Maybe you should look into being a Garbage man? Apparently they're grossly overpaid.

Good luck on the job hunt.

Yeah, I didn't get back on last night.
It's pretty fun getting drunk and watching Sailor Moon, LOL.

It sucks really bad because the town I work in is mainly comprised of Delphi (I still think Delco) and Chrysler factory workers; other than that, not a whole lot of jobs (other than food service, which I would only do if extremely pinched for money). Also, because it was at the school, they could easily fit me around my classes.

But... it was only minimum wage, which does suck and has for a very long time.

Now what I really don't get is how a school can have record enrollment (ie, MONEY coming in) and yet they are having trouble funding us to work???

But... I guess I'll have some time while I'm off to do stuff around the house; maybe even get my project car finished!
Oh wait, no money :D

My heart goes out you. There might be some holiday and post holiday temp jobs until you find something else.

Wow, sorry to hear it man. Good luck. Jan should be an OK time to look, and you have some time in the meantime to get the resume up to snuff. Take care and have a good holiday.

Well, apparently I have a few leads coming up all-ready. Better than nothing.
I might be able to get onto the maintenance department at the school, but nobody is really clear about what is going on there. There might also be a full time tech position opening up, but I don't know if I could really handle full time.

Or, there might be a position for me in a tech field of sorts in Kansas City. It's going to be started up and ran by family IIRC, but everything is still in very discussive manner right now; so I'm not sure what is going on or when they are starting up.

If you have some college you might be able to parlay your work experience into a teaching position. You may need to take a few classes, but what the hey. They always need good teechurs.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you too. Just a year ago, the same thing happened to a former co-worker just 10 days before Christmas. It's a bad deal anytime, but at Christmas time... Just great timing isn't it.
