Basic question: Subwoofer connection

Hi!

I currently own a home theater system by Panasonic (a compact one in the SCH-Txxxx serie) wich is 5.1 including a subwoofer.

I just bought a Sony STRDG820 and I was wondering if I'll be able to connect the panasonic sub on it or is it a special connection since it's a compact home theater? I know there is a standard sub connector, but maybe only on amplifier and not compact home theater!

Thanks for you help,

Alexandre

Does your subwoofer use speaker wires or a round cable with RCA connectors on the ends to connect it to your old system?

If it's the former, no: most likely it won't work with your new system.

If the latter, then you should be all set.

Almost every HTIB has an RCA type subwoofer hookup so you should be able to swap the. Remember to get a long cable. Placement of the sub matters a lot for sound quality.

A bit of clarification and expanding on the above replies -- since you don't list the actual model number of your HTiB...

If your sub is powered - that is self contained, with an AC power cord - you will be able to use it. Whether it has an RCA connector or speaker terminals doesn't matter - but will take a different connection method.

If the sub only has a speaker wire dangling from it you are SOL. ;)
