DJ components? Turntables? Mixers? CDJs?

www.pssl.com

www.bhphotovideo.com

www.fullcompass.com

Technics 1210s, Shure carts are my fav, mixers are personal preference (I have a Vestax if that helps you), for monitors get Bag End PM6s, the INFRA/ELF processor and a INFRA-15 or 18". Dynaudio's monitors are also tops, BM5s with a sub or the BM12s for mid-field apps.

Get vinyl from local shops if you have any, or the many internet retailers.

Serato Scratch Live! is a good investment if you are producing and want to play the stuff same night/before you can cut a vinyl/or if you only have a digital copy of something. I still don't own CDJs because I think Serato is a better way to go, and certainly cheaper.

If you need a portable PA, it all comes down to budget.

What is your budget?

Your computer has a sound card of some sort (if your going to be using it a lot, its best to get a nice sound card at some point). If you update your soundcard you can get one with a breakout cable or box that has RCA or XLR jacks. Typical soundcards that I suspect you have use a 1/8" output. So you'll connect a 1/8" in to stereo 1/4" rca (or XLR, depending what you end up buying) which you'll connect to whatever you decide to go with for sound. A lot of people start using home receivers, and when they melt those down one day they get a mixer and a professional amplifier. It all really depends on your budget though.

No worries about being new man, its a good hobby to get into!

If you want really cheap stuff try craigslist, ebay and your local pawn shop. I see DJ stuff at all three while browsing for audio goodies.
