Recommendations on 42" LCD

Long time lurker to the forums, but decided its time to actually join and get my question answered as I'm pulling the trigger on a new TV either before Christmas or pre-superbowl.

Looking for some recommendations on a 42" LCD TV for our TV room. I would like to keep it under $1000. This is not a "Home Theater" or anything. It is simply or family room that is in need of a new TV.

Room will be pretty bright as it has 10 windows facing directly East. Unlikely that any 5.1 will be set up, though maybe a set of decent bookshelf speakers for playing music.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Where is the TV in relation to the windows and then the seating position relative to both?

Windows will be pretty much on all 3 sides of the TV sadly. The room is pretty much wrapped in windows. Depending on final furniture selections (and a few other things) I may put the TV with its back to the worst offending windows (which face directly east). Some seats will be directly facing the TV ~12ft away or less, and others will be at roughly a 60degree angle (kids can sit there :)) probably 10ft away or less.

I would suggest Samsung for LCD. They typically offer the best motion capabilities & black levels. Sharp is not too bad either.

Vizio usually reviews OK for cheap sets.

Actually Vizio may be INEXPENSIVE but it provides good PQ and works well in a room with quite a bit of light. I speak from having 37" Vizio for 2 years in a open den area with light from two sides. I have also notice no motion blur problems which apparently plagued some earlier LCDs.

However annunaki's recommendation of Samsung is a good recomendation. I would also consider the Sony XBR, but it is quite a bit more $$$. Sometimes a sid by side comparison (audtioning video  ) in a store can clearly make up your mind.

GoodLuck

P.S. Apparently no-one liked my "Merry Christmas" Thanks

The Sony KDL40Z4100B and the Toshiba 42XV540U seem to get the highest passing grades in the 40-42 LCD both achieving over 600 lines of motion resolution out 1080.

Being the new owner of a Samsung LN-40A550 I think it offers the best bang for the buck in its class. I've got mine in my Bedroom and the clarity and colors really look outstanding and realistic . The only concern I would have is as you said your room has a lot of light in it and the Sammy has a semi glossy screen but its not a problem for me because of positioning and I only have one large window but with blinds and a privacy shade that pretty much keeps the room dark .Also being that im not real savvy as far as all the whistle and bells and making adjustments on these LCDs, i've found from other great members on this forum that helped me with my desicion and from looking at all the different LCDs on display I truly believe it had the best picture out of box then any other LCD in its class that I saw especially the skin tones were so realistic and colors .Good luck with your decision just listen to everyone's advice here, weigh it out and let your eyes be the judge and I think you'll make the wright choice for sure .
