Programming my URC 650

I think this question has been answered here before but can't remember the thread.

I have my remote all set up to run the Macros I need but the when I put a command in to change the input on the TV, it never changes. I seem to remember the delay in the macro had to be increased? I have placed an input button on the corresponding menu so I can actually turn things with no more than two or three button presses but it might be nice to have it to one.

Then again, the system works now, and if it means alot more time re-doing Macros from scratch (the 650 is all by hand programming)...it may not be worth it to me. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Happy Listening

Your Pioneer Elite does not have discrete codes per input? I know some TVs might not, but I sorta expect the Elites to have them. That would make it a lot easier... ?

Input switching on the 8gens need delays. What is the macro sequence?

You may need to go into a "technician mode" if a discreet input command isn't available with the remote, although most do have them. If this is the case, there may also be a service mode for the remote and you may be able to capture the code that way. I had to do this with a Hitachi Plasma I sold last winter.

A little update

I'm able to teach the remote the proper input so that is not an issue, and when I was entering pre-programmed codes (URC codes) for TV brands, mine worked OK and set up automatically with inputs up to 6, however I need 7.

Bandphan asked about the sequence, and I do have the TV going on first in the macro, hence my thoughts that the delay is just not enough. I could reverse the order and have the TV be last?

Again, it's only 1 to 2 extra buttons to push to get everything up and working and the remote stays on the proper menu page to do so anyway which is a plus, so I may just leave it alone.

Many devices won't accept IR commands for a few seconds after turning on so it is likely that you simply need more delay time. It sounds like you are already doing it the correct way - turn the tv power on first, then do all the other commands, and add the input change last. You may need to add up to a few seconds delay after the last command and before the tv input change.

If you don't have discrete codes (or the tv doesn't support them) and you have to scroll through a list, one workaround is to issue a channel up then channel down, which will change the TV to the antenna input, and then the input change the required number of times to scroll to the input you want.
