These are Subaru OEM units, where Mcintosh did the upgraded audio system. I found a used one for $225.

This has two 20-bit DACs. Internals are very similar to the mcintosh mx406. No internal amplifier, which is fine with me. I've got 3 in the trunk to take care of that.

My current headunit has 1 24bit dac going optical to an external 4-way DSP.

I’m about to switch to a different DSP, but am planning on running analog this time.

Hey you could be right! It may sound fantastic.. I just shutter when I see a tape deck and two mechanical knobs Let us know how it does sound when you get it all hooked up and rocking.

Bells and whistles? Sure.

Quality? Nope.

But, then again, if going digital out it’s not a big concern. It’s analog output isn’t horrible, but leaves some to be desired.

Part of the reason to make the switch is to get some money back, and also because I just like the mcintosh DD units; they look ugly so it’s not much of a thief attention grabber.
