currently, it's 25 posts.

can we maybe ADD a time requirement?

like a month or two from registration?

Just curious - what is the reason for the requirements for the classifieds?

If you're trying to prevent people from popping on just to hawk their wares, perhaps you could drop the post requirement and turn it into a time requirement? I agree with the waiting period that Mike recommends, as that would stop almost everyone who only registers to sell something - but I've seen people put up their first post after being enrolled for years.

Is the post requirement designed to prevent people from joining just to sell things?

Or trying to prevent scammers?

I have no problem with it. Note that the number of regular scammers/spammers here has dropped?

I think it's a great idea. The classifieds section is designed for legitimate members to sell their gear, not for to be an open forum for any and all sales. People who are looking for that can list their wares on eBay. I like the 2 month time frame, but think 1 month is probably a little more reasonable.

While your at it, perhaps we can add a one week time frame for new members on top of the 5 post requirements to be able to add links. If it's something important from a vendor or known source they can always pm the mods for immediate access.

I haven't been a member for very long and have certainly not tried to sell anything, but I think the timer plan is a good idea. I post here instead of AVS because it is a more tight-knit, friendly place and I like that it has far fewer members than AVS because everyone gets the attention and respect they need/want/deserve, or so I have observed.

People that join and post 25 times (I am sure there are those people - some of right at the top of the list right now - and some don't even have 25 posts) just to sell their stuff might find other venues to sell if there were a 2 month timer or the like.

here's to hoping the admins agree and that it's possible with the software.

I wouldn't be caught dead buying something off a guy with 25 posts and 30 days in. :p

But then again I'm only interested in what Phil is sick of. :D

I must say, I read the forums for years but never registered until I had to sell something. Once I started posting in other forums for the 25 post requirement, I found everyone here (so far) to be very knowledgable and very friendly. I'll be posting from now on regardless of whether or not my speakers sell, this is a great site to belong to!
