You know Acu I have no idea....in the menu I could select 2nd or 3rd in the D-link menu so I selected 3rd. I assume that means I have the update. Just got home and I will have to throw something in so I can see if all is working well...
It's already updated then since you can choose Denon Link 3rd. You are all up to date.

OK but what it comes down to is that if one wants to use the 3910 or 3930 to play DVDs and CDs via the digital connection; one still needs 2 sets of cables (HDMI and Denon link). Doesn't this defeat the purpose of going digital via 1 cable (HDMI) or am I completely missing the point ? I have connected my 3930 via HDMI for DVDs and analog for CDs. The DACs in the DVD player and AV receiver (amplifier) are the same.

SACD DSD & DVD-A could bitstream via HDMI v1.2 or v1.3, but not HDMI v1.1.

So I use HDMI for just video and D-Link for all audio on the player (SACD/DVD-A/DTS/DD) = 2 digital cables.

If you use Analogs, that is still 6 analog cables + 1 digital cable.:D

Yes you're right on that one but the initial post stated "normal audio CDS" and not SACDs. The fact I use analog for CDs just results from the fact that I didn't even bother to try doing what Chopin-Guy tried to do because my previous TV didn't have any HDMI inputs and my previous AV receiver was not a repeater so the video part was connected via component to the TV and the DVD audio part via coax to the receiver. For CDs I used the analog connection. Chopin-Guy's question made me wonder about not being able to use HDMI for CDs as well. But as you said that's related to HDMI v1.1.

So the new Denon universal player (your next toy in 1 year :) ) will be able to play all audio sources and video through 1 connection; HDMI. Right ?

I use D-Link 3rd for everything and have no problems between a 2930CI and a 3805. I am interested in trying a 5.1 analog hook-up though, just to see if I can detect a difference for multi-channel music.

On another note, Denon tells me there is no firmware upgrade for the 2930CI, but I know I have seen discussion about upgrades on other forums. Any thoughts? Was there a 2930 (no CI)?

The reason I asked is that I am having trouble with the unit playing some DVD-As. It just hangs up, and I can hear the laser searchiing but not getting anywhere - I have to turn it off to reset and then it will play again, until it hangs up the next time. My previous Onkyo displayed no such problems with the same software.

The 2930 (no CI) is not in the Denon US archive : http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductSupportAndArchives.asp

In Europe the DVD players don't have the CI suffix; check e.g. the UK site and you'll find the 2930.

Wow....I am a little late again in getting back here. In any event, the D-link works great and I can now play CDs while utilizing the 3808's internal processing giving me the subwoofer in stereo listening...

Thanks again for the help guys and I appreciate it as always...
