performance wise, it's the PB12NSD and the VTF3mk3 that are the "match" for each other. if they're the same price, i would get the PB12NSD

This list may help you decide. It doesn't have the 5000r, but it does have the 1200r which is most likely a better sub.

the 5000R should go louder than the 1200R

Thanks! I was guessing in this case...:) Yeah, I'd get the SVS.

Given your price range, I would have to say that the SVS or HSU are going to provide you with better performance for your $$$. I owned a SPL-1500r and it was a very great performing sub....but for the same money my current SVS PB13-Ultra cleans the floor with the Velodyne. I don't know about the HSU model but several members here have been extremely happy with their PB12-NSD purchases...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't know why many people consider Velodyne as a choice for a good sub. Every Velodyne I have heard falls short of what some lesser priced smaller subs can do in the same rooms. Velodyne subs are barely a step up from polk subs imo.

I would rather have a 10 inch SVS pb10 nsd than the Velodyne dls 5000r. When you start talking about the SVS pb12 NSD, it's no longer even a comparison, it's just a slaughter.

When I upgrade my sub, it will be a 12 inch SVS, but I don't really need it right now.

The DD series imo is very good for music and with auto eq a good sub. Are there subs that cost less that can compete in output yes. Velodyne does good, better, best in series proformance. To say all velos are in the same class as polks is simply flase. My HGS10x is a wonderful sounding sub with good output.

MikeC can give you his opinion on the DDs vs XX brand.

You may be right, but I have yet to hear a Velodyne that is actually worth the money it costs, when it's going to be used for both movies and music.

But you're right, and I have not yet heard a Velodyne DD series .. spec wise they look good. All the Velodyne's I did hear, like the dls 5000r, were comparable in price to really good subs, and fell way short imo. But that's just my opinion and I know nothing.

That's all I really meant.

Never heard the SVS. My best friend own the HSU and I have the DLS-5000R. IMO, between these two, I would stick with the Velodyne. A lot more bass power and you'll never hear any distortion on the Velodyne. The HSU will gve you some port noise on higher volume....

both are great tough!

Having owned an SVS 25-31Plus cylinder sub & a Velo SPL-1200R, I can say that without a doubt the Velo is by far the better sub. The SVS was great for HT but really dropped the ball when it came to 2 channel listening. The Velo excels is both areas & performs so well that I went & ordered another one. The SVS was packed up & sold without hesitation.

I am also in the market for a new subwoofer. I was leaning towards HSU VTF-3 MK3 but after seeing Velodyne DLS-5000r for $595, which is ($100~$200 less), makes me wonder if Velodyne is better bang for the buck.

I would think the Hsu 3.3 would still be the better sub between the two.

Hey Beginner 1960, I think you made a very good choice. I just recently purchased a SVS PB12-Plus and I am very.very please with it. I have had Definitve Technology and Klipsch subs before and the SVS, abiet a more expensive larger model, provides a much more rich, intensive sound.

I am also very pleased with SVS's customer support and the quality and build of the SVS sub.

Again congratulations on your purchase and enjoy ;)
