I'm sorry to double post, I saw this Forum AFTER I posted on this site on another forum.:D

Beginner Audiophile in training....HELP!!!!

I Bought a new Samsung A750. I'm going to mount this on the wall. I have the mount up with only (1) one in-wall rated HDMI (13ft) for now. I'm going to get the Time-Warner HD Cable box, and eventually a Blue ray player, and a receiver.
From what I understand, I should have at least two HDMI cables and one Optical in the wall. Would I need three?

(1) From Blue Ray OUT to TV IN
(2) From HD Cable OUT to TV IN
AND ….
(1) Optical Digital…..From TV Optical OUT to Receiver Optical IN
(I'm not always going to have the surround on)

What about the receiver? Does that also need a HDMI, and does that go into the HD Cable box?

I wanted to place the HDMI and Optical cables in the wall, before hanging the TV, so it will be ready to plug in, when I get them. Would it be ok to plug into the TV now and not into anything at the other end yet?

Since this TV already has a simulated woofer, and stereo speakers, I'm not in a rush to buy a surround sound, and a Blue Ray player, I just want to hang and watch my TV Now.

I've heard the Sony SD 350 is newer and faster loading and better viewing, than the Samsung 1500 series. Should I stay with Samsung because of the ANYNET sync, like the SONY BRAVIA sync, or should I not even worry about it?

Also, today, I saw a system for $300.00-$50.00= $250.00 ($350.00 at Amazon) for a SONY HCD-HDX274 5.1...receiver. I don't really want a DVD Upconverter, trying to keep costs down and don't need a huge monster DENON, or even want to spend lots of money for a small 9'x x12' room. The TV was enough!

Thanks. I know there are a myriad of ways to hook this all up with different components/cables, etc. Maybe I'm over thinking this. But Yes, I am confused. Thanks for any help. I guess it’s off to Monoprice, since Best Buy and Circuit City are still pushing those Monster Cables which I can not afford.

Do you have a receiver already?

If not, get one with 2 HDMI in and 1 out. That way you run the Cable box and the Blu-Ray to the HDMI ins on the receiver; then run a cable from the receiver HDMI out to the wall, and from the wall to the HDMI in on the TV.

As for audio: the HDMI cable will pass all that info to the receiver. Just make sure it can decode the surround sound formats you want.

If you already have a receiver, what model is it?

Your other questions:
Would it be ok to plug into the TV now and not into anything at the other end yet?
If you want to hook up right now (assuming no receiver, just TV and cable box), go ahead. Run HDMI from cable box either to wall, then HDMI in on TV; or directly from cable box to HDMI in on TV.

Components like this, I wouldn't really worry about matching. Get the better performing equipment (S350, think also about a Panasonic BD30 or 35)

...SONY HCD-HDX274 5.1...
I'm not a fan of Home theatre's in a Box (HTIB). You should be able to find better performing speakers for just a little more money.

Summary:
1. With TV, Cable Box, Blu-Ray, Receiver: HDMI from cable to receiver, HDMI from blu-ray to receiver, HDMI from receiver to wall, HDMI from wall to TV.
2. Just TV, Cable Box: HDMI from cable box to TV, or HDMI from cable to wall, HDMI from wall to TV

Followed your format but have issues

When I went HDMI from Receiver to TV my cable signal would not work but if I connect the STB direct to TV via HDMI it does?
If I leave this as is, how do I include the receiver/blu ray into the equation?

Well, if your TV has a second HDMI input, then you can go from Blu-ray to receiver via HDMI, then from receiver to TV. It's possible that your receiver and cable box have a handshake issue, where the receiver doesn't recognize that the STB is connected. They only way around that using HDMI is to bypass the receiver.

There are some other connection options, but without knowing what your components are, I'd be stabbing in the dark.
