Right now its still growing. The next purchase i plan is make is going to be a pair of Energy RC-70's or a pair of Polk TSi500. I have about $1300 saved to spend on speakers right now and those are the 2 pairs i am considering. Im also looking for a new receiver but that well come later. Sorry the pictures are so dark, its because of the colors of my walls. I bought most of this stuff when i was 17 and bought most of my stuff when it was on sale. Right now this is just my bedroom system so when i get a bigger house im going to buy something better from a theater room and keep this system im my room. I didnt want to spend lots of money because i know this well always be my secondary system. I love high quality i just dont have the money at the moment or the space to keep it in.

Never heard of Soundstage speakers. Who makes them? Nice system, especially for an 18 yo. Does that yammy give them enough juice?

I read some of the comments by the others here and they were RATHER HARSH:confused:. Heck to most of them even my set up is junk, BUT we all have to start somewhere;)!! Oh.. and BTW I'd look into getting the RC70's or 50's (Klipsch has decided to discontinue the Energy RC line up and some great deals can be found!) and I'm not a huge Polk Audio fan!:)

Goodluck and Enjoy, Bill:)

yeah for only 50 watts my yamaha gives them more then i would have imaged when i bought the receiver. i listen to almost every type of music out and one thing i love is having lots of bass without buying a sub. the yamaha gives them enough power to turn it up and feel the bass. the speakers for being a no name brand acctually sound very impressive. i was slowing them off and we played some old metallica and pink floyd, everyone was amazed at how clean the highs ans mids where at such a loud volume. next time i get a new receiver im going to get the integrated amp that yamaha makes because i would like a little more power, but im extremely happy with my current set up although i look forward to getting my new speakers.

i do industrial work, i have pipe fitting and sand blasting jobs. i save lots of money up for things i want. i quit smoking just so i could save that extra $200 a month to put towards my system

thanks for the info. i had a chance to hear the RC-70s and they sound amazing at least for me, and i thought they where already at a decent price. i have never heard a pair of $10000.00 speakers and probably wont for a long time.

Yeah, screw longer life.

Nice system, being one of the younger members on the boards, you would do well to get some thick skin. People think they can overpower your opinion simply because of your age. Don't ever give them that chance.

The RC line is pretty nice, they came out with a new one again, looks like it's the replacement. Pretty expensive though.

Yes, we do have to start somewhere, and you are off to a good start.

I got an early start! When I was three I was given a gramophone that played five inch discs of nursery rhymes. Problem was, there was no spring or governor, just a flywheel and you had to keep cranking the handle. It aggravated me, so I persuaded my father to give me a wind up gramophone made in India. He brought it back after serving with the Royal Engineers in India during WW II. That was a big improvement. You could wind it up and play two sides of a 78. You placed either steel needles in the sound box, or used fiber needles you had to sharpen. I got acquainted with Bach and Beethoven very well.

When I was seven, I was given for Christmas, a pre WW II HMV radiogram.

It had medium and long wave radio. The MW worked well and I could tune in radio stations from continental Europe from our home high above the river Medway in Kent. It had an electric moving iron pickup that took the same needles as previously. The speaker was an elliptical unit, with an electro rather than permanent magnet. Sound was poor, but it had connection sockets for an external speaker, so connected a 12 inch Goodmans in an open backed box. Things were better but not good enough.

With the help of my father I built a quarter wave Voight pipe with an 8 inch WB driver. I also put together my first tube amp, a single ended 3W tube amp. I had an Acos Black Shadow crystal pickup. It had 78 and LP heads, you slid on and off. Tidying up my fathers odds and ends in September, I came across the LP head. It is probably the last one left.

With the advent of stereo in 1959, I built a 10 watt per channel tube amp, that I still have in storage. I built a wide variety of speakers at that time, most of them terrible.

By the time I was your age I still had my 10 watt tube amp, and had added a Quad 22 tube preamp, which I still have and I still use it. The turntable is the left of the three in this picture. The tube Quad 22 preamp is the one below it. I use it because it has the Eq for just about any brand of 78 disc pressed. The arm is Decca ffss with LP and 78 heads. The turntable is a Garrard 301.

My FM tuner was a tube HMV unit. I also had a Brenell MK5 tape deck with tube tape preamp I built. I still have it. I started restoration some years ago and need to get back to it. The problem is I don't have a use for it. My speakers were a couple of Jordan Watts Modules with STC tweeters in folded Voight quarter wave pipes. Those speakers were very good and I used them for quite a few years.

So that was my system when I was your age. That is now 44 very short years ago. I have got into a lot more trouble since.

I hope your journey through audio, will be as satisfying and interesting as mine.

TLS Guy - thats interesting, i guess when it comes to audiophiles its in our blood from the beginning because like you i also started early. i remember when i was 9 years old i love my parents stereo and wanted one of my own. i went down to wal mart and picked up some cheap bookshelf stereo. the ones that have the 2 little speakers and a cd and tape player, i spent maybe $60 on it and remember being so proud of it. Then maybe 2 years later i bought another one, this time it was a 200 watt JVC i had it for maybe a year and it broke down. so for my next system i decided i would start to build one from different components instead of the bookshelf style. i picked up a 5.1 sony 500 watt receiver and a 10inch polk audio sub. i used some old loud speakers my parents where not using. i loved that system because it was very loud and had lots of bass. i used this until a few months ago. as i got older i realized there was more to it then just being loud. so i started to look for more quality and i wanted to build something that sounds good on all fronts not just the bass. i listen to almost every type of music out so i need something that sounds good no matter what i play even though most of what i listen to is hip hop. i also realized i like stereo rather then 5.1 so thats why i picked up the yamaha receiver, also i listen to a decent amount of vinyl so i needed those connections.

Yes, I think it is in the blood! You have obviously developed a love for music and been fascinated by its reproduction like I am. I hope you don't mind an old man's reminiscences, but I thought you might be interested in the scene from a previous generation. As you can tell, I also love the history of audio. As things change and progress during you life, which I hope will be long, you likely develop an interest in that to.

Please stay involved and keep posting!

Consider a Berhinger Power Amp.

Hey GZA very nice system!

You might want to consider a power amp sometime in the future to drive your fronts, Behringer makes two good ones EP1500 and EP2500 depending on your power hunger

And the bigger one: Behringer EP2500 - $249 B-stock
http://expertaudiocenter.com/product_info.php?products_id=565 (Very good price most EP1500s run $299)

Lots of power: 2 x 1,200 Watts into 2 Ohms; 2,400 Watts into 4 Ohms bridged operation

Good Luck!

Let me know when you're coming. I'll bake a cake.:D

You've got a nice little system there, GZA. Since you're not hurting for sound while you look for new speakers, take your time and scout out as many possibilities as you can. Go listen to some $10,000 speakers. It can't hurt to listen. Try out some one, two and five thousand dollar speakers while you're at it. One of two things will happen. Either you will find your dream speaker or you will find your own comfort level with spending money on speakers.
