i'm on a $2500 budget for speakers and subs. currently, i have a yamaha htr-5890 7.1 reciever. the speakers i want even bother mentioning... they suck. i guess i'm looking for a high efficient tower that has good enough bass to were i can run them sub-less in 2ch mode. i listen to mostly metal, and war theme classical. i plan on getting an external power amp to run with the towers. for subs i need something that has some serious output and sound clean at loud volumes.

can you run a sub in 2 ch mode? my amp want allow it

If you can live without have a separate sub ( these towers have powered subs) this is one solution.
http://www.surroundcity.com/DEFINITIVE-TECHNOLOGY-BP-7004-BPX-CLR-2500--P1882C225.aspx MSRP $3595 for $2,694.

I have Def Techs and I like them, some people don't. This is one solution , there are many and you should audition whatever you select to make sure YOU like the sound.

You also need to decide how important a separate sub is to you. SVS and Hsu are good brands but for serious sound the cost can be easily $1,000.

Good Luck!

You want full-range towers, so you don't have to use a sub.

You want to run two subs.

Doesn't make sense.

I'd be curious to know as well. The BP7004's get down to 17Hz and have a 92dB sensitivity.

There is no need to spend the kind of money it would take to get quality full-range speakers.

Sounds like you have a set-up issue. I use my sub for 2-channel.

sesitivity isn't high enough... looks like a good speaker though
If your getting a seperate 2 channel amp to drive them, I don't see an issue with sensitivty. How big a room are you putting these speakers into? How loud do you want it to go?

the sensitivity for the 70002's are measured in 2.8 watt/1 meter @ 92. pretty much 88db

the room is medium/large. i like my tunes fairly loud. problem with every tower i've purchased they sound great at low volume levels but kinda sucked when you really cranked them...

Another thing I would like to mention, is that metal is hard to do. Most of the members here use such high-quality speakers, metal would kill your ears.

Speakers for metal will require much auditioning.

What's the budget?

Two subs can be used by simply adding a y-addapter.

What SPL are you looking for , something like 110 dB ?
Here is what you need  a Berhinger Power2500 Power Amp.

Good Luck!

P.S.- Save up for this sub; It is the mostest, awesomest sub : Gotham g213 at 3800 watts.
