I'd like to install a HDMI port next to my couch in order to hook up my laptop to the telly. I have a crawlspace under my house and the distance from my TV to the couch is about 12 feet. Will this cause a loss in picture quality? And where's the best place to purchase cables for audio wiring?

HDMI isn't a cable that can be field-terminated. When you run it, use some kind of sealed box and conduit, so you can keep the living spaces totally separate from the crawl space.
