Hi first time posting (been lurking for a while). I have 3 of Yamaha's NS-C325 center units which I got for under $100 each on sale in Japan when I lived there. Apparently they sell for more than twice that here, but the tweeters are weak, or at least I damaged 2 of them physically. They have 1 1/8" Aluminum Dome tweeters, and are easy to crush.

Where can I find replacements for them? Also, if I elect to buy a different type, how do I know what specs to look for, since all I know about the unit is that it crosses over at 2500Hz?

Thanks

Unfortunately you need to buy exact replacements, or have those units repaired. Every speaker is different, and the crossover is designed for a particular tweeter. If you substitute a different one then you will not have the same speaker, and it will be downgraded.

Sensitivity, impedance plot, free air resonance, inherent frequency response roll off and dispersion all have to match exactly. You never get all these to line up shooting blind. we don't even know the specs of your tweeters to start with.

If you contact a repair outfit, such as Orange County Speaker, you likely can have your tweeters repaired. That is your best option.

Thanks for the info. Yamaha has replied with a number for customer service, and I'll look into the price of replacements first. The trouble with repairing is that the membrane is thinner than tin foil and is essentially no good so replacement is inevitable I think.

BTW, are these units worth several hundred if, say, I chose to resell them after refurbishment?
