The sub is connected to the Yamaha RX663 receiver with a subwoofer cable that I bought when I purchased the sub. The front Mirage speakers are connected directly to the receiver. I am not sure what you mean about how I have set the crossover? Not sure if I can set it ?
This may sound like a stupid question but what are the speaker binding posts for on the back of the subwoofer?

I really appreciate any help as I am having a 50" Panasonic PZ85u in stalled Weds and will be hooking the av system up at that time.
You have two options.
Your sub has a crossover. It can be turned on or off, please read your manual.
The low pass crossover if engaged is variable from 40 to 120 Hz.
Your receiver has a crossover to the speakers as well. Read that manual too!
Do not use both crossovers.
I recommend you leave your sub crossover off.
If you do, go to your speaker set up menu in your receiver.
Select sub yes. Set speakers to small, and set the crossover to 80 Hz for a start.
Now if you have a disc with tones, Play a 50 Hz tone. Set the phase control on your sub to the number of degrees that gives the loudest level. Do this carefully.
Now set the sub to a level that gently reinforces the bass, but is not intrusive.
If it is still boomey, then try different positions of the sub in the room. When you change positions you will have to set the phase again.
The speaker binding posts are to be able to use it with old stereo amps and receivers, with no sub output, that saw the light of day before there were LFE outputs.
All this I'm sure is made clear in your instruction manuals. Modern equipment is complicated. If you don't attend to details you will get very poor results.
You must read your manuals enough times that you understand everything.
If you can't understand them, you shouldn't have bought the units.
