Dinosaur from the stereo age wants to upgrade

Seriously, I have no life.
That's pretty much what I figured.

OK FINE. [harumph goes here] :D

I'm just a poor boy with a wife who doesn't understand.

What if I up the ante to $1,000.00 or less?

No problem, provided I work 'till I'm 100. This woman makes Imelda Marcos look like a bag lady. :D

I don't think anybody makes a system that expensive anyway.

Is it still possible to buy turn table stereos, etc., as I have loads of LPs and hate not to play them. Are they reasonable? Can one find styluses, etc.?
If you want the turntable to last you another 40 years, I'd get a Technics 1200/1210 (the 1200s are silver and the 1210s are black). They are under 500 bucks.

Is her name 'Nadean'? If it is, she's my cousin and she does live in California. The people next door moved out and I started badgering her about buying that house and using it as a walk-in closet for her shoes.

She told me to shut up.

Where is Felony Flats?

No, it's not Nadean. Actually my wife treats me better than I deserve to be. She'll buy me just about anything I want as long as it doesn't get us into financial jeopardy. Most of the time I have to take her to the mall and MAKE her buy things that she needs for herself.

She bought me the Yamaha 663 for Christmas :D

Felony Flats is a nickname for Fontana, CA

 I don't THINK so. There's no way a Technics turntable will stand up against my Dual 1019 (which I bought new in 1969).

Actually, it's easy to get the Technics to compare: change out the tone arm to a high grade low resonance unit. The motor and speed stability system, as well as plynth/platter are superb on the Technics unit specified above. It's only weak link is that outdated arm. Come to think of it, if you are running the original stock arm on that Dual, it's not likely to be any better than the Technics stock arm.... so the Technics with a high performance arm is going to easily out perform the Dual. Do realize, my meaning of performance has to do with lowest coloration/highest accuracy.

Sure, there are many turntables available from <$100 to >$100,000! Just off the top of my head, here's one that I would consider reasonable. I picked up one of these cartridges a while ago. I'm no vinyl aficionado, but it works well for me. There's tons of stuff out there.
I know it looks nice, but it's not comparable to the Technics SL-1200MKII, which is the same price. The MM and most other 'audiophile' entry level priced tables use low quality motors with poor speed stability, and the table is nothing more than a piece of painted MDF usually. Though the arm is probably good quality on that unit...... but I personally want more than just a good arm with my purchase. :)

Ah, mea culpa. To the OP -- the decision has been made for you. Go out and get the Technics post haste!
