For around the same money, you can get a SVS that is a superior product. For $100 more, you can build a DIY subwoofer that is superior to most $2000 subwoofers, if you do it using very specific products and a properly engineered port cabinet.

That Klipsch to me is more of a bass module as its FR only goes down to 35 Hz. Your 500 sq ft space is considered large and that sub would be like a fart in the wind. There are much better options from ID sub makers if you want a more bombastic HT experience. BTW, what model sub died? How much are you realistically willing to spend?

Minimally, I’d look at:

HSU VTF2 MK3 - $494
VTF3 MK3 - $699
SVS PB10-NSD - $429
PB12-NSD - $599
AV123 MFW-15 - $699 (On sale thru 12/08 - $499)
Epik Knight - $599
Caliber - $699
Outlaw LFM-1EX - $649

hi, thanks for the responses. I am kind of a sound/acoustics newbie so I don't think I will be able to make a subwoofer by myself. The subwoofer I have is a polk (PSW10)

It's nothing fancy. At high sound levels, i keep hearing some kind of a cracking sound. I will probably still use this subwoofer and have a Y connection to another one. Honestly, I didn't want to spend too much money.

Contact SVS and ask their opinion. SVS subs are highly recommended, and offer outstanding performance, and bang for the buck.

IMO you should sell that Polk sub, and take the cash and add it to your new subwoofer purchase.

I will return the klipsch subwoofer. However, I am having hard time picking up another one. Seems like so many options with little differences among them. I wish this site had a winner subwoofer category for $500~$600 price category

I love my eD A3-300 subwoofer. With the upgraded driver, its $500 door-to-door (shipped, etc). Seems to play very smooth, very loud, very low... shakes my entire house if I let it. It's not as pretty as some of the wood veneered subs out there, but as far as bang-for-buck goes, in a power sub that you don't build yourself, its hard to beat.

I have a Klipsch KSW 10, Def Tech Pro sub 100 and SVS PB12-Plus.

My Klipsch is downfiring and has been a pretty good sub; good built quality and nice sound and excursion. Yours is probably a better level than the one I have and it appears to be front firing. It compares pretty equally to the Def Tech sub. I am just learning the new SVS PN12-Plus sub but it is a step above the other two subs ;)
