Speakers are unlikely to cause static. However if you have over driven them, and damaged the voice coils, then you hear a buzz with the sound. The sound is very characteristic, and when you hear it, gap rub is instantly recognizable.

Before you return those speakers, try and borrow a set of speakers and see if they also have what you call static. If they do, you have trouble with your electronics and not your speakers.

If it is your speakers causing this, then you have over driven them. Small bookshelf speakers can not usually handle a lot of power, especially for extended periods.

My suspicion is that you have cooked the voice coils, and it is not the manufacturer's fault. It is not unusual for a manufacturer to void a warranty on the finding of two cooked voice coils.

if i provide my equipment is it possible to determine exactly how much is "over driven"?

when you say electronics..are you referring to a faulty cable? or a bad receiver? the sound seems to only happen from the left bookshelfs tweeter

If it is only one speaker, then switch the speakers over. If it is still left, your receiver is at fault. If it moves right, then the tweeter voice coil in that speaker has rub.

Its also possible there may be a bad connection inside the speaker, If it is indeed the speakers and you can return them for a refund or replacement I would probably do so as it will be easier for you than trying to get it fixed with the manufacturer and deal with shipping and so on. If the problem does not follow the speaker, be sure to check all of your rca cables by wiggling them while playing music as well to rule if its a cable or the reciever itself.
