Greetings, first post in this forum!

Of late, i decided to fulfill my everlasting desire for quality sound, however with a limited budget i upgraded my soundcard to Auzentech X-Plosion 7.1, i am currently using a optical connection to my sony amplifier. However i have been running into the issue of when i play a video which has SPDIF available it only produces very choppy sound on vlc and unplayable on several other players, the only player that i could play such files on is powerdvd. However changing media players is not much of a hassle, just that whenever i play such a video ( if it is just a normal stereo encoding video there are no issues ) afterwards my pc loses all audio ranging from winamp, youtube, windows, winamp would not even play the mp3 files and just sit there in pause basically. I tried changing audio settings such as from DTS TO DDL ( i use DTS ) and restarting my amplifier however to no results. So far the only remedy i could find is to restart my computer ( i am using winxp ), wonder if anyone else has come across such problems? any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

I didn't want you to think that you're being ignored. I don't have any insight into your problem, but I want to bump this thread in case some other people might.

Good luck with your issue.

I'm not familiar with that card. Do you know if it uses Azio drivers, like good professional cards? If it does, and you are using Vista, that is your problem. Professional DACs like my RME with pro software are incompatible with Vista, as the DRM within Vista causes terrible strife. In particular Vista disconnects ASIO drivers every chance it gets. So I will not use Vista.

Hi thanks for the warm welcome and speedy reply, to my knowledge i dont believe so, i think it uses auzentech/mark3D drivers, i am currently using windows xp. The problem is only with video files which allow for 5.1/ dolby surround / SPDIF audio channels, i can play them using POWERDVD and everything runs fine, just that i cannot play such videos with other players and afterwards all audio is loss on the pc. Thank you TLS i appreciate your time in reading my post.

That makes more sense. You say you are connecting to a Sony amp. You must mean receiver surely?

Make sure you have a good cable. Make sure your input on the receiver is correctly assigned in the set up menu. In other words, that input must be assigned to optical of the number of the optical port you are using.

If you have SPDIF coax on your Sony use that, but make sure you use a 75 ohm RCA cable if you do.

Ah yes receiver, sorry im still new to all of this, however i have managed to fix the issue it seemed that i was using DTS on the receiver and DTS in the audio properties, and playing DDL files doesnt want to agree with my computer or receiver. Now ive changed everything to DDL it all works fine now, thanks for all the help TLS_Guy, i have learnt alot today.
