Yeah the Mirage is a good sub for music. But that's why I went with Svs because for the $$ the HT was better. When the Mirage subs were on sale. They were @ the same$$. But now there's alot of subs that play music and ht equally.I'm sure the Mfw or most 15" sub will be good. The Hsu looks nice is the budget is there. 50-50 Ht music. Even if alot of ppl say both subs need to be the same. When you get a new one try both and see if you can tell the difference for yourself. You had a good size room dual subs would be nice. Even if you only have room for one give it a try just to see if you can tell ...especially with music since that where that sub shines :D

Epik Valor vs the PB12. Which do you think would have great overall output?

I think the valor would have the edge. I've also read that Epik is having some issues delivering on time recently.

Actually, I think they would be very close in output. Craig never finished his PB12NSD review, but he spoke very highly of it. IIRC the Valor averages 109 from 20-63...can't remember what Ilkka's SVS numbers were, but somewhere in the same region. Oops, just looked, it appears the Valor may have a slight advantage...SVS 20-40hz - 104.3 ave., 40-63hz - 110.9 ave....that comes out to 107.6 (averaging 6 FRs on Ilkka's graph).

I got notified by Epik that a Valor has become available and I was next up for it. I took them up on it and it will be ready in 4-5 weeks. For the money, I don't think it can be beat. Plus I live 5 minutes away and can pick it up! I am just hoping it is a noticable difference from my Mirage S12. If so, I will be putting the Mirage up for sale :D

If you like the sound of the Epik, but ones not enough, perhaps you could get a second after selling the mirage.

Keep us informed on how the Epik does with music.

I would say no. I remember when Vanns had there sale and ppl compared them to the Pb10 because of the price. Pb10 went deeper but the S-12 was better with music. I remember because I had alot of interest in that sub but went with the Pb10 for HT.But I dunno I never heard them side by side or the S-12 just what I read when I was looking. The Pb12 is better but per Svs 50% better then the Pb10 for Ht. Music should sound the same. How ever they classified the 50% they say one Pb12 = 1.5 Pb10. So if you want a significant upgrade get a 15" sub. Epik, Hsu or Svs Ultra. 13.5" JMO
This thread is about the PB-12, not the PB-10.

I've never heard it, but I've got a very good feeling about the Valor. Reportedly, a great combination of extention, output and slam for a killer price. Congrats...be sure to check back when you get your hands on one.

I know what the thread is about. But I don't have a Pb12 but do have Two Pb10 which has more output than a Pb12. My Valor keeps up with 2 pb10 for Ht and is alot better with music. That should have some merit.
You can ask Svs they'll say 1 Pb12 = 1.5 Pb10. They will sound similar but the pb12 will dig deeper.

Based on that then, the Valor should have more output than the SB12. Additionally, it would be more musical as well.
I am looking forward to getting it! Thanks for all the comments guys!

Just remember that's in my room. Yours maybe alot different. I see graphs on the Epik thread where a knight goes really loud down to 13hz and other charts where a knight only goes to 17hz. So it may not dig as deep for you. But I've seen many graph where the Valor exceeds 100db @20hz which is pretty loud, the Pb12 is suppose to go 99db @ 20hz which is the same. But the sealed Valor will kill it in music imo. Just hate to see you over excited and then get disappointed because the S12 is a good sub.:) But in 5 weeks you'll know:eek:

Thanks. I know not to expect a world of difference since I already own a very capable sub. I am hoping its enough in that it will play lower and louder in that range and if it does better with music, thats icing on the cake! Overall output from 20hz to 63hz, I am not expecting the Valor to stomp all over the S12 there. The Valor will probably win out, but not by much.

FWIW, I ended up ordering an HSU VTF-3 Mk3 today.
Excellent choice! I really like mine. Kinda wished I hadn't gotten rid of it. Oh well, crap happens. Be sure to let us know what your initial impressions are. Congrats on your purchase! Looks like Santa is coming early. :D:D

Cheers,

Received my sub today and in perfect condition! This thing is HUGE!!!!!! My wife had a very shocked look when we took it out of the box :D But, I love the smooth seamless look of it. From my limited time with it I can tell you that it is definately better than the Mirage omni-S12, but that is no suprise to most of you. I have not really opened it up yet, but from what I hear it sounds fantastic! I played a bit of WOTW at about -15MV and was blow away!
Oh, I am running it in MO at about 9:30 on the output dial on the back of the sub and -2.5db on the receiver SW trim.

Congrats to you sir! I agree, it is kinda big. :D:D Glad you are liking it so far. As I mentioned previously, you would NOT have gone wrong either way imho. Be sure to keep us posted and perhaps take a few pics? ;);)
