hi there, im looking for a good reciver thats 3.1 or better ill be using four three way floor standing speakers, to start with that is, eventually may add more. i have a blu ray player already so i dont need any dvd drives in it but it wont hurt, would like to have decent surround sound, and excellent music quality, but what im really thinking i would like is a reciver that has a timer on it or auto wake function so i can wake up to music, im not sure if any even have this feature but i would love it. if you know of any that have this feature with and without cd drives in it id consider, probably one with cd if possible since i doubt it would turn on other components so having its own drives for cds or mp3 files would be great, as i dont really listen ot the raido, yes would need to be the amplifyer as my other components just send signals not amplification for speakers.

thanks so very much for all your help in advance.

oh budget, i would prefer less then 500 bucks, 300 would be ideal. as far as amplification would love somthing that puts out 200 watts to all four speakers, but could live with 100 watts easy.

I believe you would have to look at micro systems (like executive shelf systems) for this type of capability. Otherwise you would have to find a series of components such as these.

http://cgi.ebay.com/PIONEER-AUDIO-DIGITAL-TIMER-DT-555-BLACK-WORKS-EXC_W0QQitemZ350128923814QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item350128923814&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A2|240%3A1318

And a receiver with hard power on, as well as a CD player that will begin playing a CD once it's turned on (also needs to have a hard power switch like the receiver).

The reason you need a hard power switch is because some more modern receivers and CD players that don't have hard power switches will not turn on when the receive current. If you use that timer I linked you to you can connect the receiver's power cable to the timer and you leave the power switch on the receiver set to "on" and you can connect the CD player to the receiver's switched outlet on the rear of the receiver. You would also set the CD player's power switch to "on". You set the timer to turn on your stuff at a certain time and it will close the relay inside to activate the power.

I don't recommend using one of those cheasy "light" timers.

Some of the URC remotes have a function that will turn on any or all of your gear at a preset time.

Also good for when you are out of town to fool the bad guys. You can have the TV come on at 8pm and off at 11 so it seems someone is home.

Duh, I can't believe I forgot about that. My sub $100 Sony remote does this. You can program it to carry out a series of functions that will turn on your system, play CDs, and a multitude of other steps should you so desire.
