Great idea if you have the room. 5 maple trees produce alot of large leaves and my back yard is only about an 1/8th acre. I'd burn them if I could but it's not aloud where I live...

My yard isn't much, if any, bigger. If you have a small area behind your garage and can conceal them, if needed, get a pair of plastic window well inserts, bolt them together and just place them on the ground. I bought a bagging mower to collect leaves but even before, I would fill the bin with any grass, leaves, weeds or other vegetation and let it rot. Water it occasionally, pour a bottle of sugary soda over it occasionally and turn it every couple of weeks. Let the rain and snow fall on it- it only helps. If it can get direct sunlight, even better. Big piles compost faster but this works well and takes up all of 10 square feet. I have a wooden frame that has 1/4" metal screen on it, so I sift it a few times a year and put that in a plastic garbage container. Everything I grow loves this stuff.
I have a trio of birches, a 60' Silver Maple, another Maple that isn't doing all that well (until it's time to drop its leaves) and my neighbor has two similar Silver Maples. Across the street, they have Maples, a big Beech and some other and the leaves all blow to our side of the street. I DO NOT RAKE LEAVES, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S WINDY. I do use my mower to chop it all up as much as possible, although the bag isn't very big, so I end up emptying it a lot but I also spread it in the flower and tomato beds, then turn the soil over for the winter.
