Why don't you guys start a Blu-ray PQ/AQ tier thread like every other forum out there?

Pan's Labryinth is the best
for picture and MTS-MA
sound. And the movie is
excellent as well.

I don't own any, but through Netflix, I've watched a bunch.

We watched Step Up 2 The Streets last night (wife's choice) and it has some nice parts to it. The end sounds like you're right there and the video quality matches.

Blade Runner .
Blade Runner is a HORRIBLE blu-ray test disk. It looks no better than any other given DVD, and the audio is just horrible (not blu's fault... how the movie was engineered)

My favorite test/show-off blu-rays are Iron Man, Transformers, and Pan's Labrynth.

I would agree with Pan's Labrynth, but not Transformers. I though Iron Man had very good SQ, but not Reference Quality like Pan's. I thought Transformers judged by itself was good SQ, but compared to the best, I thought Transformers kind of sucked.

Yuck! I think Pan's is one of the worst. LOADED with DNR. Though I've never seen Patton, this is one of my worst experiences with DNR, ever. Actually, the very worst. OTOH, great movie, great soundtrack.

After that purchase, I had to be very careful when buying G del Toro's works. I wish Cronos was to be as good as Orphanage, but alas that's not the case, and I'll wonder if I'll ever watch it.

Pan's? Yuck!

Blade Runner is an awesome transfer considering the master's age. There aren't too many like that around. HTWWW, Pale Rider, Close Encounters of the Third Kind...

I think there may be an issue here...maybe nobody told you that Captain America DIED? :p

Blade runner is like watching the movie for the first time it is so much better than the SD DVD, the PQ is outstanding considering it is that old - it isn't reference quality brand spanking new video though. The audio was also improved, but it isn't the most dynamic track as you noted, but if you like the movie, it is a HUGE improvement.

Thats fine and all.. but that still doesnt make it a good test disk. You know what they say about polishing a turd.

Know what my favorite part of bladerunner is? That one scene where the cop hover car is just barely in the background, and after the cop inside has a word with the main character, it takes off into the sky. A blast from a fog machine spewes from the bottom of the car, and you can plainly see the huge cables attached to each corner of the car as the crane lifts it into the air. Made me laugh out loud :)

Uh, I already explained in the post: It has the most severe DNR in any BD movie that I have seen.

I've heard Patton is worse, which I have not seen.

I don't know about you, but I like bluray very much for the detail.

What kind of display are you watching on?

It doesn't matter what kind of display you are watching on Pan's is very grainy (not intentionally, that is how the master is), and just does not look good. I compared it to the SD DVD upscaled on my former Oppo 980 and it looked almost identical in color and grain level. The remastering did not clean anything up; it looks EXACTLY like the SD DVD. I still love the movie though.

The Last Samurai
