My new 24" Dell Ultrasharp monitor

Not much going on today, so I thought I would post a picture of my new 24" Dell Ultrasharp 2408 WFP. I got it yesterday, its a refurb from the outlet. Ordered it on Thursday, and within 24 hours it was on my desk. Used the 3-5 day free shipping, that's twice now I have gotten things next day! I got it primarily to replace my huge 36" JVC CRT TV {which was removed from the living room to make room from my plasma}, now the JVC will go to the bedroom to replace the cheapo 32" CRT. It frees up a big space in my office, plus I gain a Lot of space on the desk getting rid of the 19" CRT monitor. I use my laptop primarily, but probably will start using the desktop more. It has massive amounts of connections {main reason for getting}, PIP {which is pretty cool for surfing/working while watching TV, Media slots, USB... Of course now I'm considering replacing the Dish 322 receiver with a VIP 222 so I can feed it some HD and better SD content, that's another 100 bucks. Does it ever end. .

Hee, hee. Surfing Audioholics while watching Sponge Bob. Good stuff!

That's a nice looking monitor. I've considered getting a new 24" myself. I like the new Apple LED display, but I have to wait until they release one that works with something other than a MacBook.

Very nice. I'm tempted to go from dual 20.1" to dual 24".

Very nice man!!

That thing's huge! I got a 22" about 6 months ago and I love it. Makes me use it more often than my laptop!

Very nice display! I have a 24" iMac thats spec'ed out to the gills that I hardly use because of keyboard issues. I can't drag and drop, cut and paste as fast as I can on my Thinkpad. Shame.

Cool Beans. I just swiped my FWP 3007 HC (the 30 inch high color Dell display) from my wife, and need to replace it so I was thinking about that one.

Got a question or 2.

Is the 'outlet' on dell.com ? how much did you pay ?

Thanks!

Very nice monitor... Dell does make some nice looking displays. I got a 20" widescreen analog flat panel with the purchase of my new Dell PC a while back, and it has a gorgeous picture. I would love to replace my current 20" samsung digital flat panel with a nice large widescreen like yours, but can't justify it as there is no good reason for me to spend that much money on something I don't need.

Yes, the "outlet" is the online Dell outlet. The cost, $449 plus tax, used free 3-5 shipping and it was on my desk the desk day. I believe the new price is $6++.00. On another note, if your don't need the added connections there are quite a bit cheaper ones. Here are the connections for the 2408 WFP which is why I got it, to feed Sat signal to use as TV replacement.

High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)
2 Digital Visual Interface - Digital (DVI-D) with High Definition Content Protection (HDCP)
Display Port
Video Graphics Array (VGA)
Separate Video (S-Video)
Composite Video
Component Video
HDMI 2.1 Audio Out
1 USB 2.0 upstream port
4 USB 2.0 downstream ports
9-in-2 media card reader

My guess on the game is Half Life 2... possibly 'Lost Coast' if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go for the cheaper one, as I redid a computer for my wife to get my gaming machine back.

Thanks-

Jealous!, from the man who has rooms full of awesome equipment and not to mention 4 ULTRA's, not sure what to say. Thanks? :) The game is Lost Coast, its a part of the Half Life series, which is a very good game. It Lost Coast was pretty much a single level teaser.

thanks! the game looks very highly detailed, must eat a lot of memory both in RAM and video card ...

i cant afford monitors that are more than 300 bucks :D i'll wait for the 24's to reach 300 or less before touching them :) (i'll have to make do with my 22's) :D:eek:

Yes, Lost Coast was a pretty good expansion level with the Half Life 2 series with the Source engine. Fairly dated though, it is my favorite game of all time, which coincidentally is the only game that runs crystal clear & clean at 2560 x 1600 with everything cranked to the max.

The newer games won't let me go that high, like for instance Crysis, I am only able to go about 1920 x 1200, with moderate settings... and even then it locks up. But I think that's partly due to running 64-bit Vista. That game is extremely heavy, even though I'm running SLI. Oh well, don't have the cash to dump on that stuff right now so I'll have to suffer.

I almost bought the 2408; it's a great monitor.

I opted for the LG L246WP... HDMI, Component, and D-Sub (great for Dreamcast or Laptop/Server)

You won't find them now though. I'd probably say the 2408 is a better monitor, feature and picture wise. Although... I really like the look of my LG :D

hmm... don't have pictures of it yet.

Too funny, I just bought a w2408h HP 24inch for my wife yesterday while she was out of town. Wrapped/opened and I'm done with Christmas...haha. Also slid the Blu-Ray of Sex & the City movie so that overshadowed the monitor as her first question was 'How much did you spend on it ?'...

I probably wouldn't have gone HP but it was all that BestBuy had that was decent, besides a pretty cool looking HannsView or something like that, their BB brand... I didn't want to take a chance.

I did notice that the w2408 can be wall mounted with the VESA 100mm x 100mm mount... So, my next question is... Where can I get a nice strong mount for a decent price online ??

THANKS-

I've had one of these for about 5 months and I love it. So much so that I was considering buying another when they had one of those great sale prices. Alas, my desk it actually not big enough to hold two of these side-by-side. On the other hand, that is why we have VESA arms.
