For action, war, space, movies I like the Fifth Element. In reallity what I like should have little bearing on what you like most. Only you can decide what you should get. Zen moment aside, try picking up the Avia test disc or the Digital Video Essentials (DVE) disc. Both have great setup, calibration, and general system tuning tips, patterns, and tools.

well, its not really a watching DVD i'm after. it would be used for tuning. as in, it would have certain scene/s that puts the audio through its paces. i would buy a test dvd, but those can be expensive. i bought "A VIDEO STANDARD" laser disc years ago, and for what little i used it = small bang for buck. i wonder if any of my laser disc's have 5.1 on em, hmmmm.

FYI, you can rent Avia, Avia II, and Digital Video Essentials (to name three of them) calibration DVDs from Netflix. Might be worth a rental.

A couple of weeks ago I did some stuff to a friends system. After I calibrated it with Avia II, I asked him where his DVD of The Fifth Element was. He told me that he had seen that like 1/2 a dozen times."Not like this you haven't", I replied. The opening scene is fantastic for everything. That ship pulling into Earth's orbit on his first HDTV accompanied by that deep rumbling coming from his sub with properly secured drivers and adequate amplification (also a first for him) really impressed him. Me too for that matter. I gotta get my own copy.

If you get Avia II from Netflix, it's suppose to have the red, green and blue filters. Right now there's a sale and if you ask me, owning it is a must.

You can buy a setup dvd for $15-20, definately worth it, IMO. If it's great scenes your looking for to demo your system, look for a DTS demonstration dvd. basically its made up of ~10 scenes from different movies that are great for showing off your sound and video. I've got the DTS Demo dvd #9 and it's so much easier than loading 5 different movies to show your friends your system.

I have watched The Fifth Element 2X in the past, but never in my HT yet.(not finished all that long yet) And thermal bandages is not familar to me.
In regard to the OP, the new "Hulk" movie may be just what you are looking for.(IMO) Give it a try.

Thermal bandages are what they put on Mila Jojovich's character in the scene when they rebuild her in the lab from molecular memory to keep her from being totally nekkid, and us from enjoying the movie that much more:cool:.

Thanks Jack!

And in regard to those DAMN thermal bandages(now that I know what they are), those Bastards! :D I also felt that way about not getting to see a quick flash of her in the buff in that movie.
BTW, Talk about a tease movie, check Ms. Javovavich in "Ultraviolet".(were those costumes painted on?) I bought that movie just so I could see her in all those hot outfits.

Most regular DVD players can decode and/or output DTS these days. Just check and make sure that your player can do it and that your receiver can use it.

If you would like, let us know the model number of your DVD player and/or receiver, and we'll check for you.

The older versions, at least up til '06 (#10) are on regular dvd. I believe this years disc, #12, is on BD. Go to eBay and search for "DTS demo." Prices and availability vary and can be affordable to outrageous, generally I recall them going for ~$35.

Do the same search here and there are some good threads that list what scenes are on which years disc (demo disc#) and what other members preferred. I like #9, it's got scenes from Master & Commander, Hero, Lord of the Rings, Kill Bill, and others.

Unfortunately, my imagination lacks focus and control. If I turn on the x-ray vision, I see everything in the field of view...and there were a lot of dudes in that film. Not that there's anything wrong with that :D, but it would have burned my mental retinas beyond repair.

Isn't Mila a little skinny? I would be in fear of dislocating her hip or something. :D
