Planar PD7130 for $1500

I have the opportunity to get a Planar PD7130 for $1500 brand new which is a 4k projector....my question is is this worth it or is it a really dated model anyways....??

Are you sure its a 4k PJ? The owner's thread is listed in the under-$3k PJ subforum at AVS, and that's MSRP, not street pricing.

Glad you're thinking about it. Hey, just a suggestion, you might want to link your pics in your sig, if only temporarily. If space issues can be an issue, I'd seriously think about saving up for the Panny 3000, not just for its PQ value, but the preset shift/focus COULD* be a big boon to you... (using a widescreen type display that might fit more easily...? Anyways, just biding my time till BMX sees this.

The model is about two years old and should be held in comparison to what else is available at that price range.

The hard part is that I'm not sure how many reviews are out there for this product, or what type of reliability you will have with it. Planar is not a company that really is known for its top shelf service or products, so I would be wary.

Now, the big plus seems to me that it is DLP and has horizontal and vertical lens shift.

The down side is that you have a DVI-D digital input instead of HDMI, which means it was designed well behind the curve of most home theater projectors of that time. Likewise, for $1,500 you have a fair number of incredibly popular choices in 720p projectors...

Every single projector on that list is a lower price and has a fair number more reviews. I would likely look to step it up to 1080p over the 720p and spend a few more bucks for the quality and resolution of a brand new design.

Pd7130

Is a nice projector, but I would not pay $1,500 for it. The MSRP of the 7130 is $4,000. Woot bought the last lot of these from Planar and Woot sold them for $605 delivered. This happened about a month and a half ago. That is why you see a big and current thread on AVS concerning this model. I have the 7130 and I also have a Marantz VP12S4. Of course I like the 12S4 better, but the MSRP of the MArantz was $15,000 at one time.

Wouldn't pay that price for it. I was one of the lucky ones who got a 7130 from Woot for $600. Replaced a DT-510. The DT-510 is a nice projector and actually is available for $450 when using live cashback(25% off BuyItNow) on ebay.
