Panny BD35 or the BD55?

Thanks Dave for your input. I decided that today was the day I made the hump to BR. In fact, I already have a bunch of BR movies and I don't even have my player yet! I know it is crazy, but I am excited to say the least. My new Denon 2808 CI is due to arrive on Friday. Did not have the funds for the 3808 CI. However, I am still very happy with my decision to get the 2808.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the BD35/2808 combo. I think Denon made big improvements to the video of the xx08 models over xx07 models like the one I had. Congrats.

Thanks Dave for your vote of confidence. I hope you are right as it will be here tomorrow. I have read over at AVS that there is a glitch when watching some BR movies that use DTS HD Master. Supposedly, Denon is working on it. But, not sure what they can really do given that the 2808 does NOT have an ethernet port to deal with such issues. Oh well, nothing in life is ever perfect. Guess, I will just have to live with it. For the most part, the 2808 does as advertised from what I garner.

Maybe I'm one of the odd ones that just needs to see DTS-HD MSTR on the front panel display like the owner's manual says it should. I know I could send it LPCM or via multichannel analog with the S550, but that's not what I want to do and I paid a lot of money for the capability to do what I want to do. The Integra cost me nearly $2100 after taxes up here, after a substantial discount I might add. For that kind of coin, I want to be able to use each and every feature as advertised to balance the value equation.

Care to be a bit more specific? Are you saying just use DD instead of the newer codecs whenever I encounter this problem? Sorry, but I am a bit confused here. It is my understanding that on some BR discs the rears become way too loud and the fronts become way too quiet. I really need to know how to get around issues like that. Sounds like you have dealt with it yourself.........right????

If so, then just switch to DD true or DD, then perhaps you won't have that DTS issue, especially when it is only on some BR discs.

If they are all like that, then that new Dolby processing is what is needed to keep all the channels properly audible no matter what the overall volume is.
One of the Admin folks posted a video about that new Dolby processing.

Well I just sold my Denon 3805 and have decided to return my BD55 and replace it with the BD35, which will save me about $125.00. I'm looking at HDMI receivers, therefore the analog outs became less of a requirement.

PS: So Phil, how are you liking the 2808 & BD35 combo because now I'm looking at the 2808 as well.

Hi Billy. This is one question I can easily answer-I am loving it!. Now, I know first hand why a lot of people prefer Denon. It has been a while since I was wowed. Needless to say, the combination of the 2808 CI and my Panny BD35 has done just that. I have been very fortunate in that ALL of my latest upgrades have been rather significant. Looking forward to upgrading some more in the next few months. Billy, my vote is to go for it!

One advantage of buying the 55 is it can decode Dolby TrueHD if you receiver doesn't do that. I don't want to get in to the "can you hear a difference" argument, I was just pointing out that it does it. If your receiver already decodes it your blowing money.
