Favorite movies to watch on Halloween?

It isn't like a tradition or anything, but I find myself tending to watch a few of my favorite scary films on Halloween. As I was thinking about what to watch tonight, I figured I'd see what you throw in?

Although not exactly scary, I will often watch The Nightmare Before Christmas. Tonight I think I will be watching Sweeney Todd. Others would include Sleepy Hollow, Exorcist, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Halloween (`78), The Shining, etc...

I'd include Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Others and the old early 80's version of The Fog. If you're up for silents, the 1925 Phantom of the Opera and Nosferatu are immortal. Slightly more recent, Cloverfields and 1408. I also liked the Mothman Prophecies and Signs

The previous weeks' recap of my 401K. Nothing scarier to me!;)

We watched Poltergeist earlier in the week since I got it on BD. Pretty good upgrade over the SD DVD.

Yeah, the portfolio is bad, but since I am not retiring, I don't really care if it is down as long as it is up when I do retire.

Hee, hee! Good one!

As for the movies, I'm not into scary stuff. I did watch an episode or two of Supernatural. That show is creepy enough for me. The one with Bloody Mary freaked me out. I wouldn't even look in a mirror that night. Although, that did temporarily improve my self image. :)

We watched 30 Days of Nights and The Reaping this year.

Some of my favorites are the first Jeeper Creepers, Children of the Corn, 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead (2004).

I for some reason have always liked scary movies. One of my favs is the original Nightmare On Elm Street. It has a very creepy feel to it. Too bad it has been run into the ground over and over again. The follow-ups seem to be more of a comedy than anything else.:eek:

Cheers,

Phil

PS John, this is a great idea. Thanks for starting such a thread! ;);)

Shawn of the Dead.
Good one! Nothing like a little comic relief with your gore. We also watched Army of Darkness (my son hadn't seen it) and Evil Dead 2 a few weeks ago :)

It is that time of year again :D I watched Trick R Treat the other day. Decently entertaining but didn't really stand out. Amazon has the BD for $8

We have some free passes so I think we are going to try to go see the new Thing this weekend. Not sure it needed a remake again, but it will be free.

Three of my favorites, in no particular order.

"Something Wicked This Way Comes" - Omnious and soul searching. A disney movie based on a Ray Bradbury tale with Jason Robards and Johnathan Pryce in a rold that you'll never forget. Not gory, but suspensful, well acted, and with a great story line. The only movie here suitable for not too young children. More scary for adults than kids.

"Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things" - Maybe the scariest/creepiest movie I've ever seen. I've never seen anything by these people since then. I wonder if they got them?

Killer Klowns from Outer Space" - Pure fun. Creepy and corny in equal doses, but too funny to be scary. How can you argue with a space gun that fires popcorn?

I usually put on the Koyaanisqatsi DVD-A. It's somewhat creepy as background music.

Something Wicked This Way Comes is a good one. Not a big fan of Killer Klowns - it was funny though. Never seen Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things.

Watched The Strangers last night. Not bad. Excellent surround mixing!! The story was relatively predictable, but it managed to generate a fair amount of tension.

I pulled out a few that we intend to watch: The Orphanage (well done, solid thriller, very little blood), The Thing ('82), Corpse Bride, maybe The Grudge, Sean of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and definitely Se7en.

I'll watch John Carpenter's, "The Fog" (NOT the more recent remake). It's a campfire ghost story where murderous dead sailors come out of a mysterious fog that afflicts Point Reyes, CA. Cheesy early 80's FX and big hair, Adrienne Barbeau and that amazing lighthouse perched on the cliffs all have roles in this early Carpenter spook story.

If not that, I will probably go to Netflix and re-watch the 2005 silent, Black and White version of The Call of Cthuhlu. Madness and obsession conspire with revived 1920's FX to make a great scary story.

The fact that you've seen The Human Centipede proves that you're sick and depraved.

"Feed her! Feed her!" YUCK!!!!

I haven't seen the movie someone just told me about it. ;) Yeah right.

I watched Human Centipede.

I heard nothing about it, had insomnia, was channel surfing in the middle of the night, and nothing else was on.

Once i started watching, it was like watching a train wreck in slow motion. Disgusting, but I was curious how it would turn out. I really had insomnia after that.

This is perhaps the sickest movie I've ever seen. Bad taste personified.

There's talk about a sequel, which I will avoid at all costs.

I'll have to drag out the Blue Ray copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula. It's great halloween stuff. Closer to the original than most Dracula flicks, it's also decadently over the top with its Victorian imagery. Done entirely without digital FX, the theatrical FX work pretty well for a supremely theatrical movie.

Once that's over, it will be the silent movie version of The Call of Cthulhu. It was made in 2005 (a full blown silent, black and white movie with intertitles) and is available on Netflix. It's just so damn weird.
