hey guys!...

my name is michael and im from charlotte n.c. i have been lurking on the site for days now, and i have several questions.

i know im supposed to search first and i did. but im so far behind i dont even know what the hell to search for... lol..

what i want is MIND BLOWING 2-way audio just for music ( no tv or anything )

what i have now---

----harmon/kardon avr 120 reciever with 110 watt yamaha speakers. sounds like crap.

what i have heard ( and i love ) ---

----pass labs x1 pre amp. pass labs 150 preamp and rf-7 klipsch towers. sounds like heaven to me!!!

i have a budget of 4000$ and i would like to know what i am even looking for. i dont understand most of anything that anyone says on the board.. ( i am THAT lost ) i am an accomplished cabinet builder and would like to do a DIY project if that would save alot of money.

can someone please help!!!!

thanx

michael

Chris where are you, this is all you

We have a few resident DIY experts who swear on the DIY route here. With $4000 as a budget you sure do have quite a few choices in the DIY catagory.I am not a fan of the Klipsch sound. I have however listened to some music thru a Pass Labs preamp and a Acurus A250 amp feeding a set of B&W Matrix 801's and the sound was unbelieveable. I have a 2 channel system with B&W Matrix 804's a Philly Audio Tube pre and a Acurus A250 amp. I am floored every time I turn on my system.I wish you the best of luck in your search for a Hi End 2 channel system. If you are not opposed to used www.audiogon.com is a great place to buy Hi End used gear for great prices..

thanx for the response..! the klipsch is the only high end speaker that i have ever heard... so i guess that is why i like it so much.. if i could reproduce the sound that those pass labs and klipsch gave out, i would love it. for the best 2 way is it best to have an amp and preamp? or should i look into a high end reciever for both, or what ya'll think? hell, i dont even know the DIFFERENCE, that is how lost i am.

ill check out that website for the used stuff :)

thanx!!
