I've read it before....I personally really like the sound of the Ultra. Who knows, maybe next year I'll get a Submersive...

Larry have you gotten a sub yet?:)

The submersive has me thinking about building my own dual opposed 15's behind my listening area...

Mark has my complete and utter appreciation for a dedicated builder of extremely well built products and customer support & service... Good going Mark, always enjoy reading about your products and reading your input to others even building their own stuff...

Not sure exactly how to correlate your above to either push/pull or isobaric loading, but let me quickly explain.

Push/pull, a setup with two driver radiating surfaces exposed (either front or back side) and wired out of phase will perform pretty much like two subs in independant boxes with one major note - they will cancel either others odd-order distortions, making the system odd-order products significantly lower.

Compound systems like Isobaric (only one radiating surface exposed, the other inside the box completely) have the major advantage of Vas and necessary box size being 1/2 of what a single driver needs. And again distortions are cancelled. The negative is that Sensitivity is the same as only one driver, so 3db less than Push/Pull.

Hi Mike,

The drivers mounted on opposing faces affords 2 benefits. First, since both move out from the box at the same time and both move in at the same time, any rocking forces are eliminated. Many subwoofers I have been impacted by over the years happen to also have used such a configuration, but there are good reasons to do this, as now the box only has to be rigid, where weight/mass has no performance benefit. You can literally suspend the subwoofer in the air while pushing it to amp clip at 15Hz and see zero enclosure movement. This is far from the case of any front firing subwoofer. In most rooms, the SubMersive's enclosure is the item which vibrates the least in the room.

The other reason is simply package size. A pair of 15" woofers on a single face makes for at least one rather long dimension. The reasonable dimensions make it very efficient to brace the panels to keep things rigid. Combine this with a high efficiency amplifier with a switch-mode power supply and even with heavy packing the shipping dimensions and weight are still within FedEx ground limits.

Thank you Warp'. :)

My designs tend to be answers to what I would have liked to have had available when calibrating many home theaters rather than just a pursuit of a limited performance spec.

At less than 1/2 the size, there are some things a Conquest will do that a SubMersive never will (and vice-versa), but my experience continues to affirm that the listening experience in a real room is the sum of many capabilities rather than being dominated by few.

No, trying to pay off some nasty credit cards first.

I was just wondering if you had decided on what brand. I getting another Ultra in order to match with my current one. It should be in by next week!

Here's the short list of what makes a SubMersive: http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/seatonsound/vpost?id=1945927

*
Dual, custom designed, 15" drivers with 3" diameter voice coils
*
A sealed enlcosure built from very strong and rigid Baltic Birch Plywood
*
Drivers on opposing faces for a completely inert, stablized cabinet that won't walk, shake or quiver.
*
A robust, high efficiency, 1,000W ICEpower based amplifier with SMPS power supply.
*
Isolated balanced input eliminating common ground loop problems
*
Cabinet dimensions: 24.25" W x 17.5" D x 25.5" H
*
Frequency response: +/-3dB 18-200Hz - outdoor ground plane

Thanks Warpdrv,

The above post and the link provided contain most of the relevant information. I have some additional photos I'll be adding when the website goes live, but there are others in the linked thread from owners. By using a pair of 15" drivers I don't need huge travel for high levels, and while robust, they are not overbuilt, which affords some performance benefits within the real range of use.
