WingNut, thanks for stopping by here darlin.... Glad to hear your adding extra units to your room... and its working out so well... I had a feeling you wouldn't be able to get by with just 2.

I have roughly the same size room, and decided to go sealed as well...
I decided on DIY sealed 18's though.... Starting with 2 to see how it plays out, and I still have a couple of 15's to add If I still need more...

crosiev;

That would not be a good combination buddy... porting introduces group delay, which by itself is forgivable, but combine delayed (ported) and non delayed (sealed) bass it's highly likely you're going to end up with less clarity than if you had chosen just one box model.

Subwoofers create sound waves with peaks and nulls. If the subs are identical they will reinforce each other making for much louder bass. When they are not identical the peaks and nulls will not match up. The way the peaks and nulls are misaligned, they will tend to degrade the SQ of the bass.
Thanks. If I had a 'normal' layout 2 would have been plenty but 4 is waaay more fun.:D

Didn't know we were buddies...:): Don't forget the Ultra can run in sealed mode. So what about the Epik tower with the Ultra? It's ported. So are you saying the only way to run duals is to have two identical subs?

I realize this is totally subjective, but do you think 1 would be enough for half movies and half music in a 12' x 18' x 8' room (1700 cu-ft)??? :confused::confused:

I wouldn't go out of my way to destroy the output by limiting your Ultra13 by using it in sealed mode.. It wasn't truly designed to be the most capable mode with the serious loss in headroom.... even Ed Mullen has commented on this, but to each their own...

If you want to go with multiple subs, you should stick with one or the other.
Sealed or Ported, choose your pleasure.....

If you want to add a second sub, I would be thinking about another identical sub. It will provide you with the most accuracy and least amount of problems trying to integrate them into your room... Now if you already had a sealed sub, you could add other size sealed subs, with less integration issues using EQ. But different ported design subs will produce different group delays separately then one another... making things more difficult in terms of integration.

I find myself really wanting another sub as I've come to realize the Ultra is a tad undersized for my room...Now there's also the Conquest, and I've read of the Saquatch too (same price range as the Ultra). I can get by with one Ultra, but I find myself wanting that extra headroom now. This hobby can be a real pain sometimes.
