I know the Axiom EP-500 did well according to Craigsubs un-official sub rankings. I don't know anyone with experience with the EP-800.

Ya it's brand new, $2350 but you can get one 20% off right now, $1880, if you are in the Axiom Owners Club. I was thinking the Seaton Submersive is also two bigger drivers, sealed and more watts for about the same cash, just not as pretty. One thing Axiom has is Bill Me Later which allows one to pay off purchases within 6 months with no interest, tempting option for me. And I bet they are very musical and would work well with my M80s.

It would be interesting to see a head to head comparison between the PB13 Ultra and the EP800. That craigsub review refers to the EP500 as a little brother to the PB13 so with two speakers maybe the axiom has grown up, but then again its sealed.

Speaking of Craig, that sasquatch sub is due out sometime?

I am sure it will do quite well. I got the chance to hear an EP500 thanks to bugbitten. When he played the opening scene of Master And Commander I could really feel the impacts in my chest. Thanks Doug for allowing me a demo! My guess is that the EP800 will be a solid performer no less.

From what I have read of people who have directly compared the EP600 to the PB13 is that they are pretty much neck and neck, Its just a matter more of personal preference in their respective sound vs one being better than the other.

The biggest downfall of the EP600 to me is the port noise at low frequencies. Ideally i would like to see a more robust cabinet as well but the same can be said for the build quality on nearly everything available now days. I think the EP800 will be a much better sub than the 600 due to it not having to deal with the port noise issues. Although I do believe the price may be a bit higher than what most people are willing to spend. We'll have to see how things play out with the new sub but the numbers Axiom is claiming are definetly impressive.

I too think that the EP800 will be a solid performer, but I have turned into a multiple subs believer.

I was going to buy a second EP500 but decided to buy dual AV123 MFW-15s instead (2 for price of one). The EP500 is now in the office for a 2.1 computer system set-up.

Yes, Doug I plan to do just that. Things here have really been a mess lately. Hal is on vacation and Rick just got back. Not to mention, my Mom really is NOT doing well at all. I do promise,however, to get down there sometime soon for a second listen. Hope to even take some pics this time too. Doug, I also appreciate you offering me a second demo. I'm going to wait for 3rd party measurements regarding the Ep800, but the Ep600 is not equal to the PB-13U.

EP600 versus SVS PB13-Ultra

So... with that ugliness out of the way, below is a post detailing a comparison a few of us did between the PB13 and EP600. As an obvious disclosure, I am an Axiom owner. I purchased the PB-13 Ultra after having read all of the great reviews while I was still in the trial period with my Axiom EP-600 as well to do a direct comparison.

Further disclosures, I'm not claiming to be a subwoofer review expert nor do I want to incite a vicious argument of which sub is better (personally I think they are both great). Hopefully you'll see from the comments posted in the following links that the review is fairly neutral and that there was no question as to the dominance of the SVS at the low end of the spectrum. To me and the small group of friends that did the comparison together (not all of whom were Axiom owners), however, this did not make it the hands down winner, for reasons explained in the linked posts.

The one comment I would offer on the above posted frequency response curves is that I did not measure anything near that level of discrepancy in my own room. I've seen the curves above before and know they are from a respected source, but they are so different than what was produced in my room that they seem a little misleading as to what the average user will experience with the Axiom EP-600.

PS: I now have an EP-800 on the way as well, which I can't wait to compare to the 600. The shortcoming I have found with the 600 is the tendency to produce port noise when high volumes are combined with ultra low frequencies. Since the new 800 is sealed, that problem appears to be solved.
