Just talked to my Program Manager and it looks like I'm probably going to go to Yuma, AZ for my next duty station. I've been here at Huachuca for just over four years (the Army doesn't count my 18 months deployed) which is a long time in the Army.

This will keep me state side for my tenure there which I know my wife will appreciate.

Well, it won't take me out to my retirement (7 1/2 years away) but hopefully it will be my second to last move.

Now this is interesting stuff indeed

Never actually heard of Yuma before, but after Halon's post, think should put Arizona on the "must visit" list of places..... So what's the best places in Arizona?

So Matt, this sounds like a good move :D

The Grand Canyon of course.. :D But aside from that obvious landmark, simply driving south down the middle of AZ on I-17 is worth the trip alone, IMO. That is a gorgeous drive, and Phoenix (although hot) is a pretty cool city. Flagstaff is also good. Meteor Crater, just off I-40 due east of Flagstaff (about 30-45 min., if I recall), the list goes on. I'm rather envious of Matt, as I only got to spend a short time there, he actually gets to live there for a while! :)

I really do like this area I'm at. It doesn't get really hot like Phoenix or Tucson because of the higher elevation (4500ft). We only see temps over 100 degrees a couple days during the summer. Yuma will be more like Phoenix and I believe it actually made the record this summer for the hottest day in the states.

I really want to go visit Flagstaff and Sedona.

Matt, good for you! We'll have to see if we can meet up before you move. Yuma is a good distance from Tucson.

Just based on watching the news over the past few years, that place is HOT. :) Sure seems like it's the hottest spot in Arizona. A lot closer to places like San Diego, though, which would be nice if you ever wanted to just drive over for the weekend.

You're gonna love a Sedona visit, Matt.

I won't send any congrats on the Yuma assignment, though. You and beast are going to be TOASTY! Sierra Vista will look like paradise in comparison. :( But as has been pointed out...you'll be closer to San Diego. :)

Hey Matt as the others have said it may be hot but at least you are here and to me that should drop it at least a relative 20 degrees. Glad you will be staying on this side of the pond.

Fair weather military posts are few and far between in my experience.;)

Beast won't be going with me, she belongs to another handler now.:(
