Ordered a 1909 this week:
PS3, cable box, OPPO all hdmi
so...I presume just hdmi them all, and hdmi out to Sony tv.....follow the MultiEQ set up and anything else I need to know? Is there a way to set it up.....so the wife can just use the tv without the amp speakers?

For this type of use then I would use the non-HDMI connection from the Sat box to the TV. Component for vid and digital for audio. Then put 2 activities in your remote, one that uses the receiver and one that does not.

You may want to make sure that your box will output to both HDMI and the other ouputs. It is possible it will not do both.

Good luck with your new gear. Should be a nice setup.

I just picked up the AVR-789 (1909 without remote RF connect). I think it will passthru HDMI from the cable box to the TV while on standby. The only caveat being the cable box
input had to be selected before you turn the AVR off.

I'd like to hear more on the MultiEQ stuff. This is my first time with Audyssey and I heard some not good things about it.

If this still does'nt work (did for me), here is the gist of it:

"The 1909 can do a straight HDMI audio and video pass-through in Standby.

Go to: Menu>Manual Setup>HDMI Setup>HDMI Control. Change HDMI Control from OFF to ON.

This will power the HDMI switching when the 1909 is in Standby. This increases the power consumption from 0.3 watts to 30 watts.

The 1909 will pass-through the signal from the last input source that was being used when it was switched from ON to Standby."

All went well, aside from trying to figure out how to get the assignments right so when I hit the remote i get the ps3...but....the multieq went well, hooked up the mic, and it did the rest. When the receiver is in standby (red lite on...).....the tv works normally....when I hit the standby button on the remote, 1909 wakes up, the picture stays, the audio is switched to the receiver....so all is absolutely perfect.
Everything is hooked up HDMI, HDMI control is "ON".....couldn't be happier, works exactly as I hoped it would, AND, wifey says it looks good.....
