Youth Without Youth

Now here's an interesting one. I heard it bombed at the box office having brought in $236,000. Don't quote me on that. My G/F and niece both would not recommend this to anybody claiming that they did not get it.

The trailer doesn't quite capture the essence of the movie. There's a weird sci-fi/real imaginary friend/super power/morality dilemma/human frailty aspect to it that captivated my imagination with a bit of a time line twist that really requires some processing at the very end. What could be better, right? Just about anything if you ask the ladies that I watched it with. I'm in the middle of watching it with the commentary.

I say 4/5 stars and I'm guessing the girls would give it 2/5, but what do they know?

I guess this movie wasn't a big earner as a rental either.

I wasn't a huge fan of this. It was like Coppola was trying to devolve into a surreal non-narrative style that doesn't really fit him. Also, it was pretty disappointing to have him make nothing for ten years and then come back for Youth Without Youth. I think he'll get back on track with Tetro, though.
