I currently have a pair of Soavos. As ive seen some of the system's pictures from the members in here, especially the pics from Acutechdefguy. He has his 2 main speakers, left and right are about 5-6 feet apart (im guessing). Is this how far apart they should be? I have my speakers set up where they are about 12-13 feet apart from each other. Is this good or bad? I dont have a center speaker or a TV yet. Just have the mains. Thank you...

The optimal spacing of the speakers is a function of how far away you are sitting from them. I gotta find that equation, but I'll post in just a couple of minutes unless someone else beats me to it.

Okay - for starters, you could check out the AH "Tips & Tricks" page on speaker setups here.

I also found this site with a lot of information on speaker placement. It is just one of many available sites, I'm sure.

The simple equation is that the speakers and you should form an equilateral triangle. There's more to it, but that's about as sophisticated as I got with my set-up.

Thank you all..

Thanks Adam and Paradigm. I did read a lil bit about it, seems kinda hard to understand. My room is 24 X 15 feet. The problem that i might encounter is one of my side-wall is wide open. The back wall is about 1-2 feet from the speaker, one speaker is slightly higher than the other due to the fireplace being in the way. I did use the Ypao, I will re-use it after all the speakers are in the most desire placement. Thank you all once again.

Maybe you have it figured out but I'll add my 2 cents anyway. You will often hear that an equilateral triangle setup is best. I.e. The distance from you to each speaker is the same as the distance between the left and right main speakers.

I consider this a good starting point. I lean more towards having the angle of the listening position be greater than 60 degrees. I prefer somewhere between 60 and 75 degrees. That is, it is okay to have the speakers a little farther apart than you are from them.

I consider any advice about where to put your speakers to be a good starting point. No more, no less. Ultimately, the conditions of your listening space will determine the best arrangement. Using the generally accepted rules for speaker placement gives you a good starting point.

Two things come into play. First the angle from the seat to the L/R speakers should be between 40) ~ 60*.
Of coarse, 60* is an equilateral triangle. A 40* angle would put the seat back about 1.38 x the distance between the speakers.

The second thing is to keep the speakers as far away from the side walls as possible, at least 2ft. The greater the distance to the side walls the wider the soundstage will be, as the speaker radiating pattern will expand to its fullest, w/o the first early reflection bouncing right back into the speaker, which would muddle the sound.

Having one side open causes problems, as having a symmetrical room is best. But you'll just have to play around with speaker locations until it sounds best.
