I posted a mix from my set last week and a few people took a liking too it. I'm starting to get into dubstep (a genre) production, and I now have a pre-release of my first track. It's already starting to circulate a bit and get some good comments so I'm happy about that.

Hm, well it's dubstep... but I love cinematics and dramatic builds. This track has a deep, deep, thick bassline (get your subwoofers ready) with a deep whobble bass drop common to the genre. What is different is that I have put the light tones of sympheny above the darkness.

Without further rambles, I give you....

I realize dubstep isn't a popular form of music on here, however, I figured I might get to learn a little bit about how it sounds in the field.... or maybe just spread some free tunes around. ;)

Enjoy.

Sensi,

please upload your files as zip. MP3 can't go through many work firewalls, like mine :\

Is this a sub warmer? :D

I like the main idea, but you got some clipping occurring that you really should take care of, around 2:50 it becomes very noticeable. Give the tracks some dynamics, there's no need to have it on the red all the time. This is Audioholics ;)
The LF drone could use some movement, maybe with a LP filter and varying cutoff frequency and Q, or even some rythm.
I also found the rhythm part a bit loud for my taste, I would prefer it more subdued. I liked the beat not being always on time.

This is just me imagining how I would remix your track :D

Yeah, I know. The subbass is hugely thick and I kept it clean, as to "pressurize" the room. Then I put a wobble on top, that is highly distorted to make it sound like the room is going to come apart. It sounds absolutely kickass in a club... because it sounds like the walls are going not the speakers, not so great on a home stereo.

The clipping is in her voice, and unfortunetly it is a sampled recording. I'm going to work on polishing her. That was just a pre-release, and I'm working on cleaning her voice and playing with the levels. I agree it needs more dynamics.

Right now I'm working on another track. When I finish up this next one, I'd love to post it and see what you think of the sound. This one doesn't use any old samples, so I think it should be clean sounding. When I fix the other I'll repost also.

I'm keeping the levels much lower to increase dynamics. I've been listening to way too many pop recordings haha.

Maybe I'll post what I have so far fairly soon. It is another subwoofer rocker.

Yeah, the drums I manually place because I hate timed drums. They are pretty close so they it can be beatmatched and doesn't run off, but I go +/- half a bpm or so throughout the track.

It did pressurize the room, I'm glad to have the amplifier at arm's reach :D

That was a nice trick. The delayed snare hit could use it. The listener is expecting the delay to hit and you hold it back a little more from time to time, just to keep them interested.

Nice :D I believe this track could be great, I really should work a little more on it.
Where's the vocal from?

Haha. The version I had up was the original, which is the thickest. I've since lowered it, because I think it is more important that I just keep that nice deep drone since the bass level can be user controled. I'll still keep it really thick, but, I'm bringing the level down.

I need to play around with using the "equation" tools that allow you to make things a little out of time but stay within a range. I'm trying to do it manually now and its a bit tricky.

Thanks!

The vocal is from Henryk Gorecki's III'd. The lyrics were found written on the wall of a concentration camp by a young girl. It's in polish. I highly recommend you pick it up, the whole thing is absolutely beautiful.

It still needs a lot of work, I'm going to be up late tonight preparing it for tomorrow.

I couldn't get it to work either, do you have another format you can link to?
