I need help!

Not sure if this is the place but figured I'd give it a try. I'm trying to break into the world of home theatre but I don't know which system to get. Here's the predicament. I have a 40" Sony Bravia Tv, a PS3, and a Hi-Def Cable box. I figure I should stick with Sony especially because of their Bravia Sync feature. Here are my questions. Should I get a system with multiple HDMI inputs? How does the optical cable come into play? Should I get a system with an upscaling dvd player or will that just cheapen the quality of the system? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are you looking to spend? Are you looking for a 5.1 speaker system and a reciever? Do you have any special needs such as a system with a very small footprint, large room to fill? etc.

You already have the PS3 that can do all of your dvd and blu-ray duties so there is no need to get an actual dvd player unless you dont want to use the PS3.

If you are going to use HDMI you dont need a digital optical cable, or any other cable for that matter. your HDMI will carry both high def audio and video.

I myself would recommend against Sony's AVR's. The ones I would go with are Denon Yamaha and Marantz to start with. Are you looking to buy speakers as well? What is your budget for this?

Yes I am looking to get speakers. I think I'm in the market for a 5.1 system and looking to spend $300-$500. Like I said I am new and I don't necessarily need the best out there, to tell the truth I probably won't be able to recognize the difference. Thanks.
