So apparently yesterday Panasonic released its MSRP of the PT-AE3000U at $2499! That is $1000 less than anyone expected it to be I think. Awesome. It is now the front runner for my soon-to-be-made purchasing decision at least, with the Epson 1080UB as the runner up (it is a close call because of Epson's famous 2 year replacement warranty).

Yea, I just read the reveiew at projector central. Looks like a solid piece of gear. That price is:eek:. I thought it was going to be more. However, I'm super satisfied with my PT-AX100U, (even though I sent it in for the iris issue). It has a stunning picture for a 720P ! I still think when the time comes that I'm ready to upgrade I will defiantely be looking at the AE3000:D Oh,just as a foot note....Panasonic provided top notch service for me and quick turnaround time. A+ for customer satisfaction. I've heard some negative feedback about Panasonic's customer service, but I just want to give credit where credit is due.;)

Does anyone know if any other PJs anywhere near this MSRP also has the focus presets?

Thanks.

Great price, and if it has any significant PQ improvement from the 2000U, maybe it will become a real value buster. (Haven't read any reviews).

check out the review . It looks like the contrast has been the biggest improvement.
Damn, that is one seriously flexible PJ for the money. MSRP is at 3.5k according to the article, which differs from the OP?

In any case, the Lens memory is such an AWESOME thing. Wow. Dang. SO COOL!

I mean I love my JVC, but I'd have to think long and hard if I was choosing one today.

It is the first projector that I know of to have the focus memory settings. It actually has complete lens position memory if I am not mistaken (shift, zoom, and focus).

It also has the same LCD panels as the upcoming Epson, and a dynamic iris that (somewhat artificially) improves black levels, similar to the current Epson 1080 UB.

The $3.5k MSRP was conjecture from an early Canadian holiday guide from Panasonic. The actual price is confirmed at $2.5k and is up for pre-order from ProjectorPeople.com and should be in stock within the next couple of weeks. I am pretty stoked and I probably won't be able to wait for the upcoming Epson 6500 UB that should be out mid-December.

I will give details as soon as it is set up.

What does a used 720p Sony VPL-HS51 go for these days?

Not too bad. I will probably post it in the classifieds here for a little while then go to the eBay.

I'm wondering why Panasonic has not put the Li-Fi lamps that they use in their rear projection sets into the front projectors. The 20,000 hours lamp life would seal the deal for me. I have a Mitsubishi HD-1000 720p DLP projector right now and when the bulb dies on it I'll probably just upgrade to a 1080p projector rather than spend $400 on a bulb. With only 150 hours on the bulb in over two years, however, that won't be happening any time soon. ;)

Li-Fi is plagued by some of the same altitude issues that plasma televisions have, which means a no-go for many places (due to both cooling issues and ambient pressure issues). Also, in this time of energy considerations, the Li-Fi is less appealing because it uses lots of power compared to any other technology (which also adds to the cooling requirement). Just hold out for LED technology to permeate the projector world.

It sounds like projectors will have very efficient LED lamps and probably 8k resolution when you're ready to upgrade anyway. ;)

More good news on the PT-AE3000U front: they are offering an extra year on the warranty as a rebate. Though the warranty cannot ever touch Epson's for sweetness, 2 years is sure better than 1, especially for free. Score!

I wonder how much of an upgrade this will be from my 900?

I still haven't had any time to tell anyone about it now that I have it, but I wanted to jump on here at this late hour and tell everyone:

1) It is awesome, and would have been worth paying $1000 more easily.

2) It is $200 off at ProjectorPeople.com at the moment - $2299 shipped!
