Multi Ch listening mode

I recently got a new BR DVD player, and it has the 7.1/5.1-channels of analog output capabilities, and my Integra receiver has the imputs. So I spent most of Sunday trying to get this to work, but for some resason I could not get into DVDs players menu that contained the 7.1/5.1, it was grayed out so could not enter. I am sure it is a little thing I am not doing right, but my question to anyone that has tried this audio format, what do you think, campared to two channel sterio, or digital optic/coaxial?? I once got very excited to try bi-amping and was disapointed with the sound, was not worth all the extra connections, is this the same deal with multi ch?

I think that the analog out would be on all the time.
The only time that the menu item would be changable is by using a digital connection and the item may allow it to change. However, I don't know the specifics of your player.

I would check the reciever to see if it's looking for digital in as the source selector. And, unless you have a specific reason to use analog, use the digital coax. I think it makes the connection much simpler.

You have to turn HDMI audio off. Page 32.

There is also some b/m that needs to be done if your receiver doesn't b/m m/c inputs. Page 34.

If your receiver has True HD, and DTSMA, there is no need for this connection.

I use this connection due to the fact that my receiver doesn't decode True HD, and DTSMA. I send HDMI vid only to the display, and 5.1 analog to the receiver. I also use a digital coax connection.

If you are making this connection for 2-channel only, there is another adjustment that has to be made. Page 33.

Also, if you are using this connection for 2-channel only, I would recommend using the audio inputs for dvd on the receiver, instead of the m/c inputs. If this is done, there will be no reason to use the b/m in the player.

If you use the m/c inputs on the receiver for 2-channel only, then you will also want to make a SW connection from the player to the receiver. Use b/m in the player for this connection.

If HDMI is handling your audio for 5.1/7.1, I would use the optical or digital coax connection for 2-channel as I mentioned in PMs to you on an earlier occasion.

Thanks your right on, I did not mute the HDMI, After listening to another DVD I am so impressed with the digital I will keep it the way it is now, Just wondering how music CDs would sound in multi channels. I really love this DVD player, I always turn off all the other signals using direct like you told me, to plays music and I swear it sounds better!

Really? I have a 1920 and I can't tell the difference. Your hearing is very likely better than mine. Anybody else with thoughts on Pure Direct from one of these players?

A 2-channel music cd will not be output in 5.1/7.1 through the 5.1/7.1 analog outputs. It will only utilize the l/r output. If you want 2-channel music in surround, you will want to use the optical or coax connection. Then, choose something like PLII MUSIC in the receiver.

I recommend to playback whatever source in the form it is mastered.
