I will model it when I have some time and let you know. What are you after in terms of response? High output? Low frequency extension? Both?

Do you have space constraints?

I'm after good sound :) I don't think it will get super low, but lower is better. I'm not horribly concerned with output as the interiors will be driven off the head unit (yeah I know). As far as space, I don't want it to take up my entire trunk :)

how much is that 10w3? i've been looking at youtube vids of the w3 and even w6 drivers ... even at show off mode, these drivers don't look like they have much excursion for the money.

Yeah..... the W7 drivers are definitely top at JL...

But for small enclosures with good SQ annunaki can confirm the W3's are very good drivers...

I would love to have a W7, but its not worth it for me. Im going to be running the interiors off of the head unit, and only have a small amp. If I did the W7, I would want to/need to run a bigger amp. Then I would need an interior amp, bigger wiring ect, ect, ect.... Ill stick with the W3 (unless Mike comes up with something better) its known to work well with a smaller amp and small enclosure.

(i was initially selfishly keeping this link a secret so one day i can buy 1 or 2 or 4) oh well.

Infinity Kappa 12 VQ around 180bucks i think

granted the W3 looks way better than the kappa IMO, but it doesnt look like it will outperform a 10VQ or 12VQ or the rythmik driver

or even the diycable.com 12's or 15's are on sale.

I highly doubt the W3v2 is going to match the Kappa Perfect units. The Kappa Perfect units are examples of nearly perfect linear devices within their rated excursion, and they can go far beyond their rated excursion, but distortion will onset at this point. The driver closest to the Kappa Perfect is the W6v2. These two will be very comparable.

My main computer is in the shop. I will get to it as soon as I get it back.

Chris,

Do you have the Dumax reports and KMS curve for the Kappa Perfect VQ or know where they are available to view online?

No. The linearity of the Kappa Perfect woofer systems is known to me by way of very low distortion performance up to x-max, based on actual distortion vs. SPL performance. This is my personally collected data. It is simply, for all practical intents and purposes, a perfectly linear device up to it's conservatively rated x-max, and it's x-max specification is not anywhere near it's mechanical limit. This device will not have any degraded audible performance regardless of low or high SPL operation if used within it's thermal and mechanical published limits, and combined with it's extremely reasonable price, this is why I recommend this device for extreme sound quality applications unless extreme SPL and sound quality are needed at the same time, where in I will usually recommend a device like the JL W7. To be fair, I believe the W6v2 (based on it's 3rd party non-linear analysis) will be a near identical performance as compared to the Kappa Perfect in actual use.

Everybody knows the only sub worth buying is a Pioneer/Premier TS-W8102SPL... :D

In all seriousness, I used to use Pioneer TS-W305C's all the time, and probably the best setup I had for SQ was a pair of TS-W255C's in a sealed, separated box, run by a pair of Kenwood KAC-729S's.

I can't speak for their current stuff, or any of the other stuff you're looking into... if I were looking for a 10, I'd probably buy this at the moment.

That woofer was designed for High SPL applications. I highly doubt it is of any linear type design. I admit I have not seen any third party measurments on this sub, but Pioneer is not exactly an innovator when it comes to woofer design.

Okay I should have put the sarcasm smiley face after mentioning the SPL sub. Obviously the OP is looking for a mid-range 10-12" sub in the $100-200 range, not a $1500 SPL sub....

That said I still think their regular 10 and 12" subs are decent value for a car stereo... :D
