Should I make this sub?

I'll try to make this as short as possible. I've always been into car and home audio, but more the car side. Well now I'm starting to upgrade my home theater equipment that is several years old/lower end (just picked up a denon 3808 yesterday :D ). Right now I've got a Sony SA-WM40 for a sub (which I know is a joke compared to what most are running on here). I have a pair of Image Dynamics IDMAX car subs just collecting dust, so I was contemplating taking one of them and making a sub for my home theater. Here's some info/specs on the sub:

Impedance: 2 or 8 ohms
Re: 3.0/6.0 ohms
Fs: 20 Hz
Qes: .40
Qms: 2.1
Qts: .34
Vas: 5.81 cuft.
Xmax: 24.9 mm
Sd: 545 cm2
Spl: 93.1dB/88dB
RMS Power: 1000 watts

I've got all the tools I need and I've built several boxes for my vehicles, so I'm not afraid to tackle the project. I guess I'm just looking for advice from the pros on if this would be worth it (or even work since it's a sub meant for car audio). I absolutely loved these things in my truck, so I'm hopin I can pick up an amp and some wood and make a damn nice sub for not a ton of money. Any help/advice is appreciated.

Here is your alignment for your IDMAX car sub. I assume this is a dual voice coil sub. Is that correct? I have modeled it 6/8 ohm.

Both? Was that a trick question?

Good to see you posting again TLS. Now go tear somebody a new one. Not me though! :D
He has DVC subs, so he has four options. Use one VC. use both VCs with different amps to each one, VCs, in series and VCs in parallel. Sorry not a trick question.

I got back from a three week stay in England on Thursday, and I'm getting over my jet lag.

I planned on wiring in either series or parallel to one amp....I haven't gotten the chance yet to really dig into what amps are available, so I was going to kinda let the amp selection dictate which way I wired the sub if that makes sense.

You need to make the wiring decision first, as it will change the alignment slightly. I would not wire in series as that will make a 16 ohm sub.

It's a dual 4 ohm vc sub, so wouldn't it be two ohms if wired in parallel and 8 ohms if series?

That is correct. I assumed they were 8 ohm VCs. I would use the series connection, or use one voice coil. There will not be many amps that would like the parallel connection. Most sub amps will like a four ohm load. However if you use one VC max power will be 500 watts, which will be plenty.

I believe the IDMAX subs to be dual 4 ohm. Series operation would result in 8 ohm final on the amplifier. Parallel operation would be a 2 ohm final. As we have already seen.

Nearly all DVC subwoofers come with warnings from the manufacturer to never run a single coil by itself. Most explicitly state that both coils should be used at all times.

Just a quick update. I've been workin with a guy from another board and have decided to use both drivers in a sealed enclosure. A Behringer ep2500 and Behringer feedback destroyer eq are both on the way to the house.
