NetFlix wants more of your HD experience money!!!!

Just got an email saying NetFlix wants a dollar more a month to provide BR disks. Should I care?

Don't I pay enough for the privelage to pave the way for those less inclined?

Has the BR player and its content really become worth paying more?

I may agree to pay more but what about the average Bose speaker owner?

Will BR die if interest does not improve more rapidly?

What if no one besides us Audioholics is willing to pay more for BR?

Lets here your arguments that my dollar will be well spent should I decide to accept this mission.

This has been a long time comming for Netflix, but it was bound to go in effect sooner or later. Until the retail price of BR's come down. It's worth it, but only if they increase there availability of popular titles, for now they still got my buisness, but they better step it up if they want to keep it.

Also, keep in mind it is just an extra dollar a month, and NOT per movie. I still think the value is there.

Didn't Netflix recently drop monthly prices by a dollar? If so, then you'd just be going back to paying what you did before.

Besides, as Randy said, it's just a dollar a month. What's that? Another $1 burger or spicy chicken sandwich? Heck, who needs those anyway? Okay, sure, I bought one today...but I can afford it - I don't have blu-ray. :)

If a dollar per month is going to bother you, perhaps you need to find another way to acquire movies. Wait till you see the inflation that will be caused by this disastrous "rescue plan" by the government. You won't notice the single dollar per month. Trust me.

Blockbuster doesn't charge extra for blu ray, and you can exchange whatever movie you get in the mail for a blu ray in store.

Its not really the money, its the principle.

I may be willing to pay, but the real question is, will the average consumer be willing to step up?

BluRay seems to think that now they have won the technology battle, they still don't have a war on their hands. I don't see near as many ads, the selection of movies really has not improved, and the players seem to get worse, not better, judging by some of the video chips I see implemented.

Just playing the devils advocate here.

I think if they are going to charge you more, they need to make sure they have more copies of new releases so you dont' have to wait. Or maybe this is their response to not having enough blu ray new releases. If fewer people want them due to the price increase, that means more copies are available to those willing to pay the premium. I don't think the extra dollar a month is a big deal to most people, especially if you get a fair amount of blu rays, the quality is worth it. After all, if you spent $400+ on a player, what's an extra $1 a month to take advantage of it?

I am not willing to pay more for a BR disk, but of course I do not own a BR player yet.

Maybe someday when BR players are dime-a-dozen like standard DVD players are I will get one.

BluRay

I think that the people willing to pay $400-1k for a decent BluRay player and $500-1k for a receiver with HDMI audio decoding will have no problem paying the extra dollar. After all, if you keep renting the DVD versions then you can't justify those purchases.

I think the netflix subscribtion is a good alternative to paying $30+ for each of the BluRay discs.

I don't have a Blu-Ray player but I do have Netflix. If I could get Blu-Ray releases from Netflix for $1 extra per month (and could play them) I would not complain about the extra buck at all.

It isn't a principle. It is a price increase. Personally, I think Blu-Ray is a bit of a waste of money. I was enthusiastic about it in the beginning but now my HD movie fare is amost exclusively recorded from HBO and others from DirecTV. I haven't bought a Blu-Ray disc in over a year.

I always believed the HD format war was meaningless. What mattered was the SD-HD war and Blu-Ray certainly hasn't won that one.
