I have my SC-07 hooked up now and there are so many sound fields to select from it is a bit confusing. My question is when watching Direct TV what sound field set up are most people using? I have a really nice system with the Martin Logan Purities as fronts and the Matinee as the center channel. It just seems that I should be more blown away by the sound. Thanks for any suggestions

I prefer PLIIx music for most television and movies.
Straight is a good choice as well for multi-channel sources.
Just use the one that sounds the best to you. There really is no right or wrong. It's more a matter of preference.

with your center, you can get away with using movie modes more. Alot like the music modes because more info is directed to the mains. I personaly dont care for any post thx processing. Just keep trying till you find what suits your taste.

You might have a dynamics compression feature turned on. On my Yamaha, there is a “night time” (or something close to that) switch which, when enabled, compresses the dynamic range so you can hear more of the movie at low listening levels. If by chance you have a similar switch turned on, then that could account for the sound not blowing you away.

I have quite a few sound fields to choose from also. I use one that makes the listening space seem larger, mostly "hall" I think, but I have front “presence” channels hooked up too, which helps with the spacial imaging. A lot of people don't care for the DSP soundfields, but you should try them out and see what you like.

Just searching around and noticed you had an old post about selling your Mitsu 65813. Do you still have it and if so are you still looking to get rid of it?

By the way I use the stereo mode or just hit the THX button if theres 5.1 audio.

I use Pro Logic 2 + THX. I like the THX mode on the SC receivers because I leave "THX Loudness Plus" engaged at all times.
